About This Role
The role of the Global Humanitarian Technical Advisor at ChildFund International encompasses several key responsibilities that are critical to the success of the organization's global humanitarian program portfolio. The Global Humanitarian Technical Advisor provides:

Technical leadership and support to strengthen ChildFund’s humanitarian programming, with a specific focus on protection and/or livelihoods.
Increased visibility for ChildFund’s humanitarian portfolio among Alliance members, external stakeholders, and institutional and private donors.
Support in achieving funding targets for ChildFund’s humanitarian portfolio.

The Global Humanitarian Technical Advisor reports to the Director of Protecting Children in Crises and works closely with the Global Humanitarian Business Development Advisor to ensure that Country Offices are well-positioned and equipped to apply for humanitarian grants. The Advisor also ensures that humanitarian proposals are well-designed and aligned with ChildFund’s Results Framework, global standards, and evidence base.
Additionally, the Global Humanitarian Technical Advisor collaborates with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) unit to guide ChildFund’s humanitarian impact measurement, learning agenda, and the development of thought leadership products that showcase the organization’s added value and field-based evidence.

This is a full-time, fixed position funded through June 30, 2027. This is a remote position open to candidates with current residence and work location in a ChildFund country of operation. Preference will be given to candidates in the Washington D.C. area.

Required Experience and Education

A minimum of 7 years of experience as a regional or global Humanitarian sector expert with responsibilities for program design, technical leadership, and business development within the humanitarian sector and a proven track record of leading complex program design and implementation for grant acquisition.
Demonstrated experience leading program design and implementation for large-scale institutional and private grants, such as those from PRM, BHA, ECHO, UNICEF, IOM, UNHCR, foundations, and multilaterals.
At least 2 years of experience working in large-scale and/or high-severity humanitarian crises.

Primary Responsibilities
Technical Support and Leadership

Provide technical guidance to Country Offices and partners on the design, implementation, and evaluation of humanitarian programs, ensuring alignment with global best practices and ChildFund’s protection and livelihoods strategies.
Develop and adapt technical tools, program models, and guidance notes to support quality and consistency across ChildFund’s humanitarian programming.
Lead or support technical design processes for humanitarian grants, including input into assessments, theories of change, activity planning, and results frameworks specific to protection and livelihoods.
Support the consolidation of ChildFund’s locally-led humanitarian approach.
Stay current on global trends, donor priorities, and evidence related to child protection, livelihoods, and humanitarian response, and translate this into actionable recommendations for program improvement.
Collaborate with technical teams across sectors (e.g., Health and WASH) to ensure integrated, holistic humanitarian responses that address protection and livelihoods needs
Support the documentation and sharing of good practices and lessons learned from humanitarian programs to inform continuous improvement and influence global positioning
Collaborate with the MERL team to ensure humanitarian proposals and programs include clear, measurable indicators and robust monitoring frameworks that align with donor requirements and ChildFund’s Results Framework.
Support the integration of real-time data collection, accountability mechanisms, and adaptive learning into program design and implementation.

Donor Positioning and Proposal Support

Provide technical input for humanitarian proposal development, including reviewing and contributing to the design of technical approaches, ensuring alignment with donor priorities and ChildFund’s humanitarian strategy.
Work closely with the Global Humanitarian Business Development Advisor and Country Offices to identify upcoming funding opportunities and match them with ChildFund’s strengths in protection and livelihoods in humanitarian settings.
Work closely with the Global Humanitarian Business Development Advisor and Country Offices to develop and update capacity statements, technical briefs, and donor-facing materials that clearly articulate ChildFund’s added value, results, and evidence based in humanitarian programming.
Contribute to donor positioning efforts, including participation in donor meetings, regional coordination forums, cluster meetings, and technical working groups, in coordination with the Business Development and External Engagement teams.

Capacity Strengthening and Partner Support

Support capacity strengthening of Country Offices, ensuring they are equipped to lead or partner in humanitarian proposals by providing technical coaching, tools, and guidance during pre-positioning and proposal development.
Support the rollout of evidence-based program models and approaches relevant to ChildFund’s humanitarian focus areas.
Guide the integration of protection and localization as a core component in program development.

Field-Level Technical Support

Provide remote or in-person technical support to ChildFund’s humanitarian projects (e.g., PRM-funded projects in Mexico and others).
Participate in technical reviews and after-action learning sessions.
Contribute and review internal and donor reporting by providing timely and accurate technical inputs, analysis, and documentation of program results, lessons learned, and field activities.

Others

Support response efforts in countries where ChildFund has no presence by collaborating with strategic partners to expand protection and/or livelihoods programs in regions affected by large-scale crises.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective implementation of the organization’s humanitarian priorities.
Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy.

Other Required Competencies

The ability to read, speak, and write fluently in English. Professional working proficiency or fluency in Spanish is preferred.
Strong technical writing and proposal development skills, with the ability to produce well-structured models that showcase the organization's capacity to deliver impactful programs.
Proven ability to build and maintain strategic relationships internally and externally fostering a focus on a strong donor engagement and creating effective funder-focused communications.
Excellent organization skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage communication in a technology-enabled international organization while working remotely across time zones.
Willingness to work under pressure in a team focused on time-bound strategic goals.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including outside regular business hours, to accommodate urgent needs and time zone differences in humanitarian contexts.
Good presentation skills, with the ability to conduct effective capacity building and training in virtual and face-to-face settings.

Other Criteria
Willingness to travel internationally up to 30% in the Americas and Africa region.
