PRIMARY AREAS OF WORK:
Under the supervision and direction of the Senior Membership Operations Specialist, the part-time, seasonal Community Engagement Assistant supports the Councils efforts to be a visible and active member of the community. The Community Engagement Assistant is responsible for hosting and running booths and tables at community events to build general awareness of Girl Scouts within the region. The Community Engagement Assistant is responsible for talking with prospective members about Girl Scouting, assisting with registration where possible, or turning the leads over to the full-time team for further support as needed.

LOCATIONS:

Serving communities primarily in Washington, DC and the following areas of Virginia: Arlington County, City of Alexandria, and NE Fairfax County.
Occasional need to work or meet in the Washington, DC office.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
Create visibility for the Girl Scout brand at community events, with the ultimate goal of generating youth and adult members in a responsive, community-focused manner. Responsibilities include:

Collaborating with Senior Membership Operations Specialist and regional membership teams to identify opportunities for Girl Scouts Nations Capital to be present within the assigned community.
Hosting booths or tables at community events across the area, engaging with potential members and partners in a manner consistent with Girl Scout values and the Girl Scout brand.
Providing quick, hands-on activities to children to showcase the Girl Scout program to them and to caregivers.
Networking with other community partners at events to establish GSCNCs presence within the larger non-profit and youth-development community.
Answering questions regarding membership and escalating more complex inquiries to on-call team members.
Submitting reports post-events to share follow-up needed with prospective members and partners.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to positively represent the Girl Scout brand to the general public, and build networks and relationships with individuals, families, and potential partners.
Background in sales or membership recruitment is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
Strong verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Excellent presentation skills with the ability to engage effectively in public settings.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including frequent evening and weekend meetings and activities.
Access to reliable transportation for daily travel within the jurisdiction.
Creative problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds with ease.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference may be given to candidates with Girl Scout experience or those who have worked with volunteers in a leadership capacity.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is also required to be able to lift 35 pounds without difficulty.
