The Assistant Manager aids in the management of the Christ Child Opportunity Shop consistent with the short-term and long-term interests of the Christ Child Society. He/she will consistently provide customers and consignors with the highest level of service possible and assist the Store Manager (Manager) in achieving budgeted revenue goals and monitoring expenses. He/she will aid the Manager in the selection, processing, and display of merchandise. The Assistant Manager will ensure the satisfaction and quality of the volunteer staff. In addition, the Assistant Manager is solely responsible for Internet media management.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Promote and monitor quality service among volunteer staff through training and by acting as a positive role model
· Be personally available to all customers to communicate and identify their needs and address their questions or concerns
· Aid in fielding all incoming phone calls to the Shop and direct appropriate calls to the Manager
· Assist the Manager in formulating the annual business plan and budget
· Aid in preparing and managing the volunteer work schedule to ensure that the store goals are met through appropriate planning and organization of volunteers
· Aid in creating a merchandise plan; organizing and managing the display of merchandise in coordination with the Manager
· Work with the Manager on short-term and long-term business planning and development as it pertains to aspects of merchandise and merchandising
· Work with Management and supporting committees on marketing, partnerships, and online store strategic planning
· Assume responsibility for opening and closing the store and securing all assets as scheduled
· Oversee orders placed by Floor Supervisor to ensure that an efficient ordering system is followed weekly to maintain necessary store supply levels
· Assist in arranging appointments for building and mechanical maintenance service calls as needed
· Assist with maintaining store security system, including building security and cash handling.
· Assist the Manager with consignment and management of consignor appointments and merchandise
· Oversee and improve online store and on-line annual sales
· Train Retail/Marketing Associate on maintaining and updating the Shopify platform
· Work in conjunction with the Retail/Marketing Associate to develop and photograph a variety of items to be featured and updated online on a weekly basis
· Package and ship outgoing online orders, and provide additional follow up should there be questions, or damaged shipping claims
· Field customer inquiries regarding inventory changes, provide photos via email when requested
· Aid in all aspects of inventory control
· Work with the Manager to develop and implement a strategic marketing plan for the Opportunity Shop to include branding of the store and advertising

· Work with Society staff to develop consistent, effective marketing materials for the Opportunity Shop in keeping with the history, tone and mission of the Society

· Develop and execute strategies to utilize the store’s location to attract new customers (signage, window displays, etc.)

· Identify and coordinate participation in appropriate local shows, bazaars, and events in which to sell items and advertise the Opportunity Shop
· Assume the Manager's responsibilities when needed
· Motivate and develop volunteer staff in order to encourage their professional development
· Aid in recruiting new volunteers
· Assist the Manager with providing an orientation for new volunteers
· Provide an "open door" policy where volunteers are free to express their concerns and feelings without fear of retribution or ill will
· Develop a dynamic communication approach to keep volunteers informed of store policies
· Work in close coordination with the Manager on volunteer issues
· Assist with maintaining accuracy of volunteer database
· Able to stand/walk for extended periods of time, necessary to provide sales floor coverage related to customer service and loss prevention
· Able to reach overhead, bend, squat, kneel, and carry product, necessary for customer service, inventory re-stock, and store merchandising
· Able to walk up and down staircase, carrying boxes, products, and other necessary store related items
· Able to perform store maintenance items: sweep, vacuum, empty trash, and clean.
· Able to safely lift boxes up to 60 lbs.
· Comfortable climbing ladders
· Available to work a flexible store schedule to include weekends and evenings, as necessary
· Available to work off-site events several times a year

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

· Excellent verbal communication skills
· Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
· Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
· Ability to give clear directions and set expectations for staff
· Strong computer skills – Microsoft Office, database experience, and experience in retail software required
· Able to train and delegate effectively
· High school degree or equivalent
· Minimum of five years’ experience in retail management, preferably with luxury goods and antiques
