Job Description:
We are a startup surgical practice in Montgomery County, MD, looking for a skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a startup practice where you will play an integral role in patient care, helping to create a positive and efficient environment for our patients and staff.
As a Medical Assistant, you will provide administrative and clinical support in a patient-centered environment. You will be responsible for assisting our surgeons with clinical care of patients, ensuring a smooth flow of patients, and maintaining high standards of care throughout the patient experience.
Responsibilities:
- Clinical Support:
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist during surgical procedures.
- Take vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, etc.) and document medical histories.
- Assist with routine patient care procedures, such as wound care, dressing changes, removal of sutures/staples, and prepping patients for surgery.
- Sterilize and prepare surgical instruments and equipment.
- Assist in the preparation and clean-up of exam and treatment rooms.
- Assist in keeping office clean and organized.
- Administer injections, medications, and provide other medical treatments as directed by the healthcare provider.
- Conduct phone assessments of patients before and after surgery.
- Educate patients on pre and post-surgery and provide instructions as needed.
- Ensure proper patient positioning for exams and procedures.
- Administrative Support:
- Schedule patient appointments and maintain accurate appointment calendars.
- Answer phones, address patient inquiries, and direct them to appropriate medical staff.
- Complete FMLA or work notes for patients.
- Manage patient records in compliance with HIPAA and practice confidentiality protocols.
- Assist with billing and coding for insurance purposes as requested.
- Manage patient flow to ensure timely and efficient services.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with the practice's surgeons, and administrative staff to ensure coordinated care and excellent patient service.
- Ensure that medical equipment is properly maintained and stocked.
- Help implement office procedures and patient care protocols in a growing, startup environment.
Requirements:
- Education/Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- Experience:
- Previous experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in a surgical or clinical setting.
- Experience with medical office software (EHR/EMR systems) is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and surgical procedures is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Spanish speaking is a plus.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
- Compassionate and patient-focused with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
