Budtender
Our Budtenders play a vital role in supporting daily store operations and ensuring exceptional customer experience. Working closely with the Management team, Budtenders help carry out dispensary activities in alignment with company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
We’re looking for individuals with a positive, friendly, and upbeat attitude who are passionate about helping patients find the right products to meet their needs. Budtenders are responsible for engaging with customers, managing check-in/check-out processes, handling debit and cash transactions, and delivering outstanding service at every touchpoint.
Strong communication and active listening skills are essential, as is the ability to work collaboratively with both patients and fellow team members in a dynamic retail environment.
Budtender Responsibilities
● Customer Experience & Engagement
o Welcome and greet all customers and visitors with warmth and professionalism.
o Build rapport and deliver high-quality service to promote a positive and lasting customer relationship.
o Provide cannabis education tailored to individual needs, including information on strains, consumption methods, effects, and safety precautions.
● Product Knowledge & Sales
o Share in-depth knowledge of cannabis products, highlighting features, benefits, and value.
o Support customers new to cannabis by offering guidance and answering questions with patience and care.
o Promote add-ons and complimentary products through cross-selling strategies.
o Upsell, when appropriate, and inform customers of current promotions, discounts, and loyalty offers.
● Point of Sale Operations
o Operate the cash register to itemize and total purchases, applying applicable discounts and ensuring compliance with purchase limits.
o Accurately handle cash and electronic payments, issuing receipts, refunds, or change as needed.
o Balance cash drawer at the start and end of each shift, maintaining accuracy and organization.
● Store Presentation & Inventory
o Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming retail and work environment.
o Assist with restocking, merchandising, and preparing product displays to ensure a fresh and engaging sales floor.
● Customer Service & Conflict Resolution
o Address customer concerns or complaints calmly and professionally.
o Escalate unresolved issues to the Floor Manager as needed.
● Teamwork & Communication
o Collaborate with team members to meet sales goals and support a positive store culture.
o Share customer feedback, challenges, and coaching opportunities with management to support continuous improvement.
o Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current on product knowledge and compliance standards.
o Train new staff when needed.
o Completes additional tasks and assignments as directed by management.
Team Member Expectations
All staff are expected to represent Cookies DC in alignment with our commitment to creating a welcoming, respectful, and professional environment for every patient. This includes:
● Patient Experience & Professional Conduct
o Greet every patient warmly and professionally upon arrival.
o Begin check-in and sales promptly to ensure efficient service.
o Conduct accurate and informative patient orientations.
o Avoid employee small talk and non-work-related conversations when patients are present.
o Do not make or receive personal phone calls or send texts while in the patient care area.
o Do not promote or solicit any personal business interests while on Cookies DC premises.
● Store Cleanliness & Presentation
o Maintain the professional appearance of the dispensary by regularly restocking merchandise and participating in basic cleaning duties as needed.
● Physical Requirements
o Must be able to remain in a stationary position (standing or seated) for up to 50% of the time while performing job duties.
Compliance & Training
● Demonstrates strict adherence to all company policies and state regulations.
● Successfully completes a certified online course in cannabis science.
● Participates in ongoing in-house and online training sessions to stay current on cannabis science, products, and compliance standards.
● Demonstrates expertise in cannabis products, state regulations, and brand knowledge.
What You Bring to the Role
● Prior experience as a budtender or in a similar customer-facing cannabis role
● Strong customer service skills and a genuine commitment to supporting both your team and your customers
● A passion for cannabis and a deep interest in staying informed about products, trends, and industry developments
