SUMMARY: This position assists one or more tradesmen by performing specific or general duties of lesser skills, such as keeping a mechanic supplied with materials and tools; cleaning work areas, machines and equipment; assisting journeyman by holding materials or tools; and performing other unskilled tasks as directed. Work is performed under the direction of a journeyman working on air conditioning, heating and ventilating systems for commercial and industrial applications. The helper reports to the Service Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

Assists HVAC Mechanic or Journeyman in repairing mechanical and electrical systems for heating and cooling equipment.

Performs preventative maintenance on a variety of heating and cooling equipment.

Periodically monitors and inspects heating and cooling systems to ensure continued proper operation.

Picks up and delivers parts and material required for job needs.

Investigates heating and air conditioning complaints; performs minor repairs

Installs air and water filters on various equipment.

Assesses drain problems and performs any needed repairs.

Follows all safety practices and adheres to all safety related policies.

Fills out forms related to the work such as purchase orders and maintenance records.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum of 6 months experience in the plumbing and pipefitting and /or HVAC mechanical equipment or graduate of trade school.
- Working knowledge of hand tools.
- Some knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety rules and regulations applicable to the trade.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Mechanic Aptitude
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Able to lift 50 to 75 lbs. and physically fit enough to work for periods of time in crawlspaces, wall voids, and attics.
- Current driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Able to obtain a US government clearance.
