Overview
The Starz Program is seeking an Assistant Manager to help manage the daily operations of a youth enrichment program in Northern Virginia. Starz provides dance, cheerleading, and sports classes to children ages 2-12 directly in preschools and elementary schools. The position will require approx. 20-30 hours per week Mon-Fri between the hours of 9am-5pm. Most work will take place Mon-Thurs between 10am-4pm. Some work will be conducted on-site at partner schools, while administrative work can be done remotely on a flexible schedule.
Candidates must live in the DMV area year-round and be available to work during the entire 2025-26 school year. This is a great opportunity for a college student, recent college grad, or young professional interested in gaining valuable work experience in the youth enrichment space while building leadership and program management skills.
Responsibilities
Teach Classes (10%)
- Teach approx. 2-8 classes each week (dance, gymnastics, cheerleading, and/or sports) and serve as a model coach for the team.
- Manage team call-outs and serve as the primary back-up instructor for the team.
Team Management (50%)
- Serve as the manager, mentor, and main point of contact for a local team of part-time instructors (mostly local college students).
- Maintain weekly e-mail, text, and phone communication with instructors to provide updates, support, and answer questions.
- Help the Area Owner to recruit and hire new instructors. Build relationships with local colleges to develop a recruitment pipeline for new instructors.
- Train new instructors by providing on-site and remote training.
- Stay up-to-date and knowledgeable of all Starz program curriculum in order to coach and support instructors on class curriculum. Help to modify curriculum as needed.
- Lead in-person and remote team meetings as needed to share updates and build a positive and supportive team culture.
Partner Relationships & Class Scheduling (30%)
- Build and maintain strong, positive, and professional relationships with all partner schools (mostly daycares and elementary schools).
- Help the Area Owner to conduct outreach to new schools to market the program.
- Proactively schedule classes and coordinate class logistics with partner schools.
- Manage and respond to inquiries from partner schools and parents in a timely and professional manner.
- Serve as the face of the program across the region. Attend local meetings and other events as needed to represent the program.
Other Duties (10%)
- Attend weekly in-person and virtual check-in meetings with the Area Owner.
- Help to lead monthly staff meetings, attend franchise calls, and special events.
- Manage program databases, equipment, and supplies as needed.
- Assist the Area Owner with other duties as assigned.
Basic Requirements
- Experience and passion for working with children ages 2-12.
- Experience directly managing or coaching others, ideally college students.
- Background and a passion for dance, cheerleading, gymnastics, and/or sports/fitness, with a willingness to train staff on all program curriculum.
- Must live in or near Northern Virginia with reliable transportation to travel to partner schools across Northern Virginia (Arlington/McLean/Fairfax).
- Must be available to work year-round (during the school year + summers).
- Must be extremely reliable, responsible, a strong communicator, professional, and organized.
- Proof of a valid driver’s license.
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Must be able to lift and carry class equipment and supplies up to 20 pounds.
- Must be able to walk, sit, bend, squat, raise arms above head, run short distances, and move around a classroom or similar type space to teach fitness classes and monitor students without limitation.
Compensation & Perks:
