Position
The Sales Associate is an in-store customer-facing team member who will deliver outstanding customer experiences while increasing sales. Sales Associate is a foundational position that can be a career position, or a launch point to other paths in Sales, Design, or Leadership. The position reports to the Showroom Manager..
Primary Responsibilities
Manage the customer experience through the sales process from first in-store interaction through ordering, while:
- Assisting customers as experts on our products, services, advantages, and promotions.
- Meeting or exceeding customer expectations via a positive, well-informed, consultative approach in order to drive repeat and referral business.
- Following up on prospective orders via phone, text, and email.
- Entering orders accurately and coordinating closely with store operations regarding order fulfillment.
- Continuously refining your professional consultative selling skills and product knowledge.
- Ensuring the cleanliness of the showroom and product displays.
- Serving as a voice of the customer in helping the company understand local customer demand, trends, and the competitive landscape.
- Using company systems to communicate with precision and drive process efficiency.
- Working collaboratively with team members across functions in order to deliver outstanding customer service and make Home Surplus a great place to work.
Requirements
- Preference for consultative showroom sales experience, and/or familiarity with kitchen/bath fixtures and the basics of residential construction.
- Outstanding listening skills.
- Warm and open. Enjoys interacting with all types of people.
- Willing to ask relevant questions in order to drive sales.
- Detail-oriented, with outstanding follow-through.
- Enthusiastic team player.

- Professional presentation. Strong verbal communication and average written communication skills.

- Willing to learn and follow basic sales funnel processes.
- Moderate flexibility, including the ability to work most Saturdays, in keeping with a traditional retail environment.
- Speaks and understands English clearly. Fluency in other languages like Spanish is a plus.
- Comfortable with technology.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Physical/Environmental Requirements:
Work is performed in a showroom/warehouse retail environment during traditional retail business hours. Physical requirements include:
- Extended periods of time standing and walking.
- Speaking in person, on the phone, and by video.
- Entering customer and order information with a keyboard and mouse.
