The Multicultural Outreach Officer (Executive Management Assistant I) is part of the Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) within the Office of the County Executive. This position is a public, forward-facing position and is representative of the County Executive and the Administration. The Multicultural Outreach Officer is the liaison between the Administration and the community we serve. The Multicultural Outreach Officer will coordinate and manage the outreach strategies to build stronger relationships with under-reached communities. Qualified applicants must have strong community-building experience, excellent writing skills, uphold a positive attitude in challenging situations, and have the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of stakeholders. Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
Executing and coordinating strategic communication and outreach plans to keep residents informed and continually engaged with the administration.
Coordinates and conducts business outreach efforts.
Provides excellent customer service to the residents of Anne Arundel County who contact the County Executive’s Office via phone, email, mail, or in person. Responds to constituents within 48 hours of initial contact and collaborates with county departments and agencies to ensure that issues are resolved as quickly as possible.
Provide accurate information about government services, policies, and procedures, and make proper referrals and connections for constituents, as well as offer solutions and recommendations when appropriate.
Collaborate with staff and county departments and agencies to tackle complex issues and coordinate projects that affect all minority groups across the county.
Being informed about the issues facing county residents, especially within immigrant, Limited English proficiency, and other minority communities, and the County Executive’s position on these issues.
Managing the planning and execution of events and outreach programs aimed at engaging multicultural communities.
Attend both office and community events that may take place during evenings and weekends.
Other duties as assigned.
This is an “exempt” position serving at the discretion of the County Executive. The position reports to the Director of Multicultural Affairs.
The pay range for this position is $64,190 to $70,000 based on qualifications.
The Multicultural Outreach Officer must be passionate and culturally sensitive when working with diverse communities.
Qualified applicants should have strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent problem-solving and interpersonal abilities, and be proficient in Google Suite.
The candidate must also demonstrate a positive attitude, empathy, and the capacity to handle emotionally charged situations, along with a commitment to confidentiality and professionalism. Skills in constructive conflict resolution are essential.
This fast-paced office environment demands excellent time management, adaptability, flexibility, the ability to work independently and in teams, attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a willingness to assist with special projects as needed.
As a vital member of a small team, the position may require assisting with different tasks as they arise.
Bilingual skills are preferred.
NOTE: This position requires a thorough background.
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in social work, sociology, or a related field preferred. Relevant work experience can serve as a substitute.
EXPERIENCE: At least two (2) years of experience working with vulnerable communities or related experience.
