CMA / PHLEBOTOMIST POSITION SUMMARY
The Certified Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist works collaboratively with nursing staff, medical providers, laboratory personnel, and custody staff to meet the needs of patients in a correctional environment.
CMA / PHLEBOTOMIST MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must hold an active Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant training program from an accredited institution.
- Subject to initial and ongoing security clearance requirements.
- Acute care experience preferred.
CMA / PHLEBOTOMIST ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Takes vital signs, height and weight.
- Assists with PPDs and EKGs.
- Draws blood.
- Measures and records intake and output.
- Assists with patient treatments such as dressing changes, decubitus ulcer, and tracheostomy care.
- Adheres to Universal Precaution procedures and established Infection Control procedures.
- Schedules appointments.
- Adheres to safety and security policies and participates in disaster drills.
- Is proficient with CPR and recognizes need to implement. Receive re-certification training annually.
- Assists in cleaning, sterilizing and securing of equipment.
- Follows security regulations for keys, sharps, and controlled medications.
