ABOUT THE JOB
This is a role for a warm, engaging Family Assistant who enjoys being a steady presence for a bright and energetic 8-yr-old boy, as well as supporting the household with light, general family assistance such as tidying/organization, house management, scheduling, and errands. The role is anchored around the child’s daily routine and transportation, with additional family support woven in to help two busy working parents keep their home & family life running smoothly.
This is not a formal household. It is a busy and family-focused environment where maturity, initiative, and a calm presence are highly valued. The person in this role should feel comfortable jumping in where needed and helping create structure and consistency. Someone who communicates clearly, is highly dependable, and enjoys engaging with children in a thoughtful, screen-free way will thrive in this position.
Schedule
The Family Assistant will support the child’s daily routine, including school drop-off and afternoon pick-up, after-school activities, homework, and early evening coverage until the mother returns home. Core coverage hours are 7am – 9am and 3pm – 7:30pm, Monday through Friday, with flexibility between to handle general household/family assistant tasks.
THE EMPLOYER
Both parents are busy professionals who are deeply involved in their child’s life and value structure, communication, and consistency. They are schedule driven and would appreciate someone who is naturally organized, keeps track of school and activity calendars, and communicates proactively.
The family lives in a multi-level six-bedroom home in Arlington, Virginia, two blocks from the metro, with a separately accessed apartment currently occupied by an au pair who will be departing in mid-March. They are open to either a live-in or live-out arrangement, depending on the candidate’s preferred living arrangements and flexibility. Their home is informal and family centered, with an emphasis on kindness and respect. They are looking for someone mature, calm, and grounded, who can help their child de-escalate by creating a sense of steadiness and serving as a positive role model.
The family employs a weekly housekeeper who handles the majority of cleaning. They would appreciate someone who is willing to assist with general tidying and organization, particularly as it relates to the child and shared family spaces.
