Please note: The salary range above represents this position’s earning potential. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

If filled at the Social Worker I, Grade 21, the salary range at hire will be $70,556 - $77,605.

If filled at the Social Worker II, Grade 23, the salary range at hire will be $76,742 - $107,346.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Aging and Disability Services is seeking a dynamic, Licensed Social Worker, to serve primarily as a clinical screener for adult protective services that investigates abuse, neglect, self-neglect, and exploitation of vulnerable adults in Montgomery County, Maryland. This position also screens for Adult Services programs such as Social Services to Adults, Adult Foster Care, the Public Guardianship and the Home Care.

What You'll Be Doing

This Adult Services Intake Screener's duties will include:

A thorough initial screening assessment of the adult’s risks, needs, resources and presenting problem/concern;
Duties primarily include phone and walk-in screenings for allegations of abuse, neglect, financial exploitation and self-neglect of vulnerable adults, and to make recommendations on whether to assign for an APS investigation to address the adult’s needs;
Referral to and coordination of appropriate resources;

Screenings and walk-in assessments will also require appropriate referrals to the Social Services to Adults program, Senior Care referrals, In-Home Aide Services, Adult Foster Care-Project Home, the Public Guardianship program and Home and Community Based programs;
Consultation and collaboration with other staff within the Department as well as collateral agencies such as MCPD, MCPS, the State's Attorney's Office, the Office of the County Attorney, private attorneys, guardians of property, medical professionals, EMS/FRS and public and private community agencies;
Consultative work on Community First Choice referrals, PASRR cases, Adult Medical Day Care referrals and other programs referred to the Adult Services Intake unit.
Complex case referrals will be reviewed and discussed in consultation with a Lead Worker or the Intake Supervisor;
Documentation of all client and collateral interactions are to be recorded in CJAMS web-based system

The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment background check, medical exam, and drug screening.

Minimum Qualifications

Social Worker I

Education: Possession of a Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of a graduate social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Experience: None

Equivalency: See Maryland Board requirements.

License:

Must be licensed as a Licensed Master Social Worker – LMSW, or higher, by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners.
Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class C (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant’s state of residence.

Social Worker II

Education: Possession of a Master’s Degree in Social Work(MSW) from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of a graduate social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.

Experience: At least one year of social work experience under the supervision of a LCSW or LCSW-C in accordance with Maryland Board requirements.

Equivalency: See Maryland Board requirements.

License:

Must be licensed as a Licensed Master Social Worker – LMSW, or higher, by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners.
Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class C (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant’s state of residence.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

Preference for interview will be given to qualified candidates with experience in the following areas:

Experience working with vulnerable populations, including adults with disabilities & the frail elderly.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment and under the pressure of firm deadlines and mandates.
Demonstrated experience with interdisciplinary teaming, community outreach, and customer service.
Experience utilizing various state and local DHS and HHS programs to coordinate services.
Experience working in a Call Center system.
Experience in applying social work principles, theories, and methods relevant to the client population.
