The Position
We are a premier wine wholesaler seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Operations Manager to serve as the backbone of our warehouse and distribution team. This is a management-track role focused on inventory integrity, warehouse flow, and team coordination.
While your primary focus is inside the warehouse, you will also serve as a backup driver as needed for our fleet. When a primary driver is out or a high-priority delivery is needed, you will step in and deliver in one of our one-ton high-roof vans.
Primary Responsibilities (80% Operations)
Warehouse Oversight: Assist in managing daily "pick and pack" operations, ensuring vintage accuracy and SKU organization.
Inventory Control: Conduct cycle counts and manage the receiving of domestic and imported shipments.
Logistics Planning: Help optimize route sheets for our DMV territory to ensure maximum efficiency.
Maintain an Organized Warehouse: make sure its a clean, temperature-controlled environment and adheres to VA/MD/DC ABC and ABRA regulations.
Secondary Responsibilities (20% Relief Driving)
- Backup Delivery: Step in as a relief driver during peak seasons, emergencies or staff absences.
- Territory Navigation: Safely operate a one-ton/large-size van throughout the DMV (including tight DC loading zones).
- Customer Service: Act as the face of the company during deliveries, handling invoices and physical case drops at retail and restaurant accounts.
Requirements
- Fluent in English: Speaking, understanding and writing.
- Previous experience in warehouse management: preferably in the beverage or perishable goods industry.
- Clean Driving Record: A valid driver’s license and a clean MVR are non-negotiable (No CDL required for this vehicle size).
- DMV Expertise: Familiarity with the metro area is a plus.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and carry wine cases (approx. 40–50 lbs) repeatedly.
- Tech Savvy: Comfortable with inventory management software and routing apps.
