Position Summary
To assist physicians, nurses, and patients by providing ambulatory medical care services in General Dermatology and Cosmetic Dermatology.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: To perform this job successfully and be professional in your attitude and appearance in order to best represent our organization and our services. An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
CLINICAL
- Rooming patients: Accompanies and/or assists patients to the exam room in a professional manner
- Responsible for clinic patient flow, informing physicians of patients’ arrival and room assignment
- Vital Signs
- Support physicians during all patient visits and procedures to increase productivity: medical or cosmetic consults, Mohs, excisions, IPL, Botox fillers biopsies, etc.
- This includes setting up the exam room and preparing the patient
- Obtaining consents for procedures and filling out requisition forms as directed by the physician
- Photograph of treatment site required
- Performs Labs
- Explains test procedures to patients
- Review education material with patients using printed materials as directed by provider or policy/procedure: perioperative care, wound care, medications, cosmetic procedures, etc.
- Ensure patients schedule for appropriate follow up appointments
- Generate and provide reports and complete administrative duties as needed. Handle telephone calls and tasks regarding perioperative care, wound care, minor complications, etc.: discuss with provider and document in an electronic health record
- Keep rooms clean and stocked
- Ability to calculate dosages (demonstrated via passing yearly written medication exam)
Administer medications (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, topical) using proper technique – this duty can only be performed after the MA has demonstrated competency to clinic RN yearly
- Communicates laboratory and test results to physicians and/or nurses
- Maintains cleanliness of cosmetic injectable pre area.
- Maintains patient areas clean and safe
- Comply with OSHA guidelines
- Maintains and improves knowledge and expertise through continuous training
- Performs other duties as assigned

EQUIPMENT SECTION
- Maintain quality of cosmetic lasers and surgical instruments
- Must be competent in High-Level Disinfecting and Sterilization of instruments and equipment.
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Takes inventory of supplies, equipment, and medications
- Ensures clinical areas are well stocked
- Ensures expiration dates have not lapsed
- Communicates problems and concerns to supervisors
- Regularly attends staff meetings and huddles
- Copying/faxing
- Reports equipment/Touchwork problems
- Provides excellent customer service by demonstrating positive behaviors towards patients, families/visitors, providers, other department staff, and co-workers.
- Orders supplies and medications
- Keep record-keeping logbook or excel spreadsheet for pathology
COMPUTER SKILLS – IDX/TOUCH WORKS
- Properly import vital signs into the patients’ electronic medical record
- Generates accurate simple tasks, such as notifying physicians of PPD results, FOB results, etc.
- Able to locate and follow computerized orders
- Able to appropriately document care and services into the patients’ electronic medical record
- Able to correctly complete electronic charges for nurse visits
- Able to pull up schedules and print labels
- Must be proficient in Electronic Health Record application
- Attend all training classes to maintain computer skills
- Pass all proficiency tests
- All tests must be passed in a maximum of two attempts

Qualifications
Education
- High school graduates and graduates from a Medical Assistant school are necessary.
- Certification or Registration as a Medical Assistant is required and it is required that it be kept current.
Licensure
Experience
- Three to five years of experience in General and Cosmetic Dermatology to include the use of lasers (i.e hospital, or physician’s office).
