The Fairfax County Sheriff's Office is seeking dedicated professionals to support the daily operations of the agency under sworn supervision as a Control Booth Operator. This role plays a critical part in ensuring the security and efficiency of the Fairfax County Courthouse and Adult Detention Center (ADC), including coordinating and facilitating response of first responders to emergency situations. Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring personnel, visitors, and inmates;
- Managing courtroom and security passage access and responding to calls via telephone and radio;
- Effectively communicating security incidents and sharing information with sworn personnel;
- Being proficient and current with policies and standard operating procedures;
- Possessing the ability to operate a computer-aided dispatch console, controls, and radio frequencies.
Note: This posting may fill multiple positions within the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office. Assignments may vary based on operational needs, requiring adherence to established protocols and procedures.
Schedule: The incumbent may be assigned to multiple types of shifts (shift hours are subject to change). Court hours are 8-hour shifts that work Monday-Friday, equal to 80 hours per two-week pay period; Squad schedules are 12.5-hour shifts that work 15 days per month with workdays alternating weekly, equal to 87.5 hours per two-week pay period, to include evenings, weekends, and holidays. (Day shift is from 6:30 am - 7:00 pm and Night shift is from 6:30 pm to 7:00 am).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduation or possession of a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) Operator Level B certification (Required within 6 months)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
The appointee to the position will be required to complete a criminal background check, polygraph exam, and psychological exam to the satisfaction of the employer.
This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency and experience operating a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.
- Proficiency and experience operating a radio dispatch communication console.
- Previous experience dispatching public safety professionals to calls for service (i.e. law enforcement and/or fire & rescue).
- Proficiency and experience using criminal justice information databases. (i.e. the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN))
- Experience in corrections.
- Proficiency and experience operating a secure facility control and monitoring system.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature; however, visual acuity is required to read data on computer monitor and Graphic User Interface, incumbent must be able to operate mouse and keyboard driven equipment. Must verbally communicate effectively and with others. This position requires the ability to hear and interpret auditory signals, such as alarms, emergency alerts, or verbal instructions in real time, to ensure the safety of personnel and operations.
