We are seeking a highly motivated, professional Medical Assistant to join our dedicated surgical team.
Job Summary
The Medical Assistant/Mohs Surgical Assistant provides essential clinical and administrative support. This role requires a high level of professionalism, precise attention to detail, and the ability to maintain a smooth operational flow in a fast-paced surgical environment. You will be responsible for assisting with surgical procedures, maintaining meticulous patient records, and ensuring our patients feel supported throughout their treatment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Surgical Assistance:
- Patient Care: Provide exceptional, compassionate bedside manner, ensuring patients feel comfortable and well-informed throughout their visit.
- Surgical Support: Prepare surgical suites for Mohs surgery and general dermatologic procedures, ensuring all sterile trays and equipment are set up according to protocol.
- Assisting: Assist the physician during surgeries, including retraction, hemostasis, and specimen handling.
- Procedures: Administer local anesthesia as directed and assist with wound dressing and bandaging.
- Education: Provide thorough pre-operative and post-operative instructions to patients and their families.
Documentation & Compliance:
- EMR Excellence: Ensure all patient visit notes are accurately completed in the EMR system prior to leaving for the day.
- Accuracy: Maintain precise logs for biopsies, surgical specimens, and laboratory results.
- HIPAA: Follow all guidelines regarding patient confidentiality and record-keeping.
Operational Workflow:
- Promptness: Ensure the "8:00 AM patient flow" is initiated promptly and efficiently.
- Coordination: Participate in daily clinical huddles to coordinate the day’s schedule and patient needs.
- Efficiency: Collaborate effectively with the Office Manager and clinical team to minimize patient wait times and maintain a positive office atmosphere.
Professionalism & Teamwork:
- Maintain a respectful and professional demeanor toward patients, colleagues, and management at all times.
- Contribute to a supportive "team-first" culture, assisting coworkers as needed to ensure the practice runs smoothly.
Required Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
- EMR: Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is required. (Experience with Modernizing Medicine/EMA is highly preferred).
- Knowledge: General knowledge of anatomy and dermatology is considered a significant asset.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and sterile techniques.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a commitment to patient-centered care.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask under pressure.
Schedule & Physical Requirements
- Full-time schedule (Monday – Friday).
- A minimum of 35 hours per week is expected, though daily hours may fluctuate based on surgical volume.
- Must be able to stand for extended periods during surgical procedures.
- Consistent punctuality and reliability are essential.
Pay: $19.50 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 35.0 per week
