Position Summary:
The Sommelier is responsible for leading the Club's wine program while supporting daily dining operations to deliver exceptional member and guest experiences. This role combines wine expertise with operational leadership. The Sommelier serves as a visible presence in the dining areas and upholds the Club's standards of excellence, professionalism, and hospitality.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Engage with Club members and guests to ensure a consistently positive and memorable dining experience by upholding Club standards for food, beverage service, wine service, and overall hospitality.
- Lead and manage the Club's wine program, including wine selection, purchasing, inventory control, cellar management, wine list development, pricing, and vendor relationships.
- Ensure all food and beverage offerings consistently meet Club standards for quality, presentation, taste, and member expectations, while providing expert wine recommendations and food pairing guidance.
- Develop and execute wine tastings, wine dinners, educational programs, and other member-focused events that enhance engagement with the Club's beverage program.
- Provide ongoing coaching, training, and performance feedback to staff, including education on wine knowledge, beverage service standards, food pairings, and sales techniques.
- Create and manage staff schedules, ensure proper shift coverage, support labor budget goals, and maintain active communication between front-of-house and back-of-house operations.
- Empower employees to address guest concerns promptly and professionally while utilizing appropriate service recovery techniques to maintain exceptional service standards and member satisfaction.
- Conduct interviews, recruit, hire, train, and develop qualified team members while supporting a positive, professional, and service-oriented work environment.
- Collaborate with culinary leadership and the events team to develop menus, beverage pairings, special promotions, private events, banquet functions, and unique dining experiences for members and guests.
- Ensure accurate recordkeeping, complete performance evaluations in partnership with Club leadership, and maintain compliance with all applicable alcohol service regulations, health and safety standards, and Club policies.
- Stay current on wine, hospitality, and industry trends and recommend operational improvements that enhance the Club's wine program, dining experience, and overall member satisfaction.
- Complete other duties and special projects as assigned
Position Qualifications and Functional Skills:
- Minimum three years of experience in fine dining, private club, hospitality, or food and beverage operations.
- Certified Sommelier designation preferred or equivalent wine knowledge and experience.
- Extensive knowledge of wine regions, varietals, vintages, production methods, and food pairings.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to train, motivate, and develop service staff.
- Friendly, service-oriented, strong communication skills, and able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, POS, and financial reporting systems with the ability to learn new systems.
- Flexible schedule with willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Physically able to perform job duties, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 40 pounds.
Pay: $70,000.00 per year
