KPC Diagnostics, a medical laboratory located in McLean, VA, is part of Loudoun Medical Group, a multispecialty medical practice with over 350 providers and 2000 employees. We are in search of an energetic, dependable and adaptable individual with strong organizational skills capable of multi-tasking, prioritizing and functioning independently as Laboratory Support Technician.
Laboratory Support Technician performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks including but not limited to the following:
- Perform courier duties as needed by collecting samples from medical practices and surgery centers: MUST BE 25 OR OVER TO APPLY, DUE TO INSURANCE RESTRICTION.
- Inspecting and processing incoming specimens to ensure specimen positive identification while satisfying compliance requirements
- Accessioning cases in laboratory information system and preparing cassettes and slides
- Prepares and labels cassettes and slide according to established procedures
- Assist with case assembly prior to handing to pathologists for interpretation
- Assist with data entry and other clerical tasks to support laboratory and administrative personnel
- Identifies and resolves problems or communicates to laboratory staff
- Carefully follows standard operating procedures and manuals
- Filing, retrieval, and disposal of slides, blocks, and tissues in a timely and accurate manner, according to established procedures
- Assist pathologist with FNA procedures, you will be required to go off site to clinicians office
- Coordinate pathologist FNA Calendars daily
- Coordinate tissue send out request from outside institutions
- Assist with CAP Inspection materials daily
- Monitors and enters cases daily for Virginia and Maryland Cancer Registries
- Able to coordinate with laboratory technical specialists, histotechnologists, pathologists, and admin staff
- Performs additional miscellaneous/ ad hoc projects as needed
Responsibilities and Duties as:
Pick up and collect patient specimens from outpatient medical clinics, surgery centers, and other locations using company vehicle- Note: company vehicle and gas card will be provided.
- Process pathology specimens to ensure proper specimen identification in compliance with regulatory standards;
- Data entry, preparation and labeling of cassettes and slides using laboratory software and other support functions
- With appropriate education and training, may assist with limited technical functions, including performing staining protocols;
- Ensure all company safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are maintained
- Excellent clerical, organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize workflow and ability to multi-task.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent education with some college courses in Life Sciences, such as biology and chemistry.
- Hiring preferential will be awarded to college students, or graduates looking for future careers in medical and diagnostic laboratory medicine. US veterans are encouraged to apply.
- Prior laboratory-related work including college laboratory classes, prior work in medical laboratory environment preferred but not required. College degree in Biology would be great!
Required license or certification: Valid and current driver's license with excellent safety record. Note: will be required to provide driving records upon job offer.
Job Location: McLean, VA
Daily work schedule: 10:30AM-7pm during week days (30 min unpaid lunch) Prefer someone who is flex with work scheduling to accommodate business needs.
Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
