This is a good starting point if you’re looking to get into retail and build some proper customer service experience. You don’t need previous cashier experience, and you won’t be expected to know everything on your first day. Training is provided on the register, payments, returns and general store procedures.
A few things to know before applying
The position is full-time, usually 35–40 hours per week. Shifts are arranged on a weekly schedule and can include weekdays, evenings and weekends.
You’ll be on your feet for much of the shift and will spend a lot of time speaking directly with customers.
Once you’re trained, you’ll be responsible for:
- Serving customers at the checkout
- Processing cash, card and contactless payments
- Issuing receipts and handling basic returns
- Answering customer questions or finding someone who can help
- Keeping your register balanced and organised
- Restocking checkout supplies
- Keeping the front end clean and presentable
- Helping elsewhere in the store during quieter periods
Who can apply?
Previous experience as a Cashier, Retail Associate or Customer Service Associate is welcome, but it isn’t required.
For an entry-level applicant, we’re mainly looking for someone who is reliable, comfortable talking to customers and willing to learn. You should also be able to work accurately when there’s a line at the register and ask for help when you need it.
