Starting Pay Rate: $23-24/hr

Shift Type: Evening 12p-8p M-F and rotating saturdays 8a-2p

Veterinary Assistant Job Responsibilities:
A veterinary assistant provides animal care by receiving instructions from Veterinarians and pet owners. Must care for all cats and dogs equally, no matter the breed.
Core Responsibilities:
- Assisting veterinarians during appointments with obtaining history and vitals, restraint, and medical charting
- Giving injections, administering subcutaneous fluids, taking x-rays, using various lab machines, and basic grooming
- Sample collection - Urine, blood, and stool
- Cleaning, maintaining, and preparing supplies and equipment
- Maintaining accurate medical records, including recorded dictation of appointments
- Filling prescriptions as directed by a veterinarian, and explaining prescription directions to owners
- Assisting with check-in and checkout procedures, scheduling, and providing telephone support
- Suggesting dietary products, vaccines, and other services to clients once properly trained
- Keeping our facilities clean and well maintained
- Performs other duties as assigned to keep the hospital running smoothly
What We Are Looking For (Requirements)
- Experience: Minimum experience safely handling and restraining cats and dogs.
- Confident positioning for chest/abdominal x-rays and successfully drawn blood on patients at least 20 times.
- Knowledge: Basic understanding of veterinary vaccines, preventatives, and general industry services.
- Proven experience obtaining thorough medical histories directly from pet owners.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 40 lbs, handle large dogs pulling on leashes, and stand/walk/climb stairs for an 8-hour shift.
