About the role

Changing Technologies INC is hiring a Hepatitis Peer Specialist to support DC Health's HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, STD and TB Administration (HAHSTA). You'll be embedded inside a community-based organization in DC, working directly with people affected by Hepatitis C, HIV, and substance use — populations that clinical services rarely reach on their own.

This is a peer role. Lived experience in recovery or health navigation isn't a "must to have" . it's the qualification.

What you'll do

Outreach and enrollment at health fairs, community events, and through direct street outreach
Educate clients on HIV / HCV / STI basics and the value of testing
Deliver harm reduction messaging; connect clients to syringe services (SSP), MAT, and HIV treatment
Conduct HBV/HCV screening within SSP, HIV, and MAT program settings
Assess each participant's knowledge and self-management around HCV — treatment, transmission, prevention, self-care, emotional wellness, disclosure
Build individualized client plans; maintain contact via in-person, drop-in, phone, and email
Accompany clients to clinics, community agencies, and home visits with nurses when needed
Maintain confidential records; submit monthly reports to DC Health on time
Attend required trainings and bi-weekly team meetings

What we need from you

Lived experience with HCV, HIV, recovery, or health navigation (required)
Willingness to do street outreach in DC and engage people who use drugs without judgment
Reliable documentation habits — monthly reporting is non-negotiable
High school diploma or GED
DC Peer Recovery Specialist certification is a plus, not required — we'll support you getting it

4. Schedule : Can you commit to a full-time schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends for community outreach events?

5. Background check : Are you able to pass a standard background check and drug screen as required by DC Health contract terms? (Note: A criminal history does not automatically disqualify peer applicants — DC Health peer programs explicitly value this. But CTI still needs the check completed. Consider softening this to: "Are you willing to complete a background check? Prior criminal history will not automatically disqualify you for this peer role.")

6. Documentation : This role requires submitting monthly written reports to DC Health on time. Are you comfortable with regular written documentation and email-based reporting?
