Job Description:

The IT Specialist I provides technical support for the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Information Technology (IT) systems supporting mission-critical operations within the Marine Corps Enterprise Network (MCEN) environment. This role supports both stand-alone and client-server systems, ensuring network reliability, system performance, and operational readiness.

The incumbent will assist with network administration, hardware and software deployment, system upgrades, troubleshooting activities, and customer support while maintaining compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) and organizational standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

System Installation & Administration

Install, configure, maintain, and repair IT systems in stand-alone and client-server environments.
Support Microsoft server environments, Defense Message Systems (DMS), and other authorized information systems.
Install, configure, and maintain server hardware and software.
Support storage networking devices and enterprise IT infrastructure.
Perform hardware upgrades and repairs to ensure mission readiness and operational continuity.

Network Support & Operations

Integrate multiple information systems within networked environments.
Install, configure, and troubleshoot:
- Local Area Networks (LAN)
- Base Area Networks (BAN)
- Wireless hubs
- Routers
- Switches
- Network transmission media
Ensure proper workstation installation, configuration, and connectivity within the enterprise network.

Technical Support & Customer Service

Diagnose and resolve customer information system and network-related issues.
Provide technical support for hardware, software, and network connectivity problems.
Escalate complex technical issues as appropriate.
Document troubleshooting efforts and resolutions.

Network Configuration & Security

Support network infrastructure using industry-standard protocols and technologies, including:
- Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)
- Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP)
- Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
- Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs)
- Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
- Network Address Translation (NAT)
Assist in maintaining secure and reliable network communications.

System Optimization & Maintenance

Monitor and optimize network performance.
Perform routine preventative maintenance and system updates.
Ensure systems remain operational and available to support mission requirements.
Maintain accurate system and asset documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

Minimum of two (2) years of experience supporting information technology, network operations, help desk, systems administration, or related technical environments.

Certifications

Required:

CompTIA Security+ Certification

Additionally, candidates must possess at least one of the following:

CompTIA A+
CompTIA Network+
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA)
Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)

Security Clearance

Active Secret Clearance required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) network environments.
Familiarity with enterprise Microsoft server technologies.
Experience with network infrastructure deployment and administration.
Knowledge of Defense Message Systems (DMS).
Experience supporting large-scale enterprise networks.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of network administration and troubleshooting principles.
Understanding of routing, switching, and network connectivity concepts.
Experience with Windows-based server and workstation environments.
Ability to diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
Familiarity with IPv6, VPNs, VLANs, NAT, BGP, and EIGRP technologies.
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team setting.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Work Environment

Office environment supporting secure government operations.
May require access to restricted or classified workspaces.
Minimal travel required.
Occasional after-hours support may be necessary to support operational requirements.

The anticipated salary range for this role is $50,000 to $67,000 annually. The anticipated salary range for this position is provided in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws. The final starting salary will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including the selected candidate's qualifications, skills, relevant experience, education, certifications, and work location (where applicable), as well as internal equity and market considerations.
