This position is located in the Department of General Services (DGS), Facility Management Division (FMD). The FMD has the responsibility for maintaining and managing approximately 165 District Government owned and leased properties providing a working environment that maximizes customer agency’s ability to perform their missions. To accomplish this, the division administers building operations and services, including engineering, custodial, inspection, planning, repairs, grounds maintenance and non-structural improvements.
The position functions as Maintenance Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator – MVO) responsible for performing custodial work, maintenance and labor work, and operating motor vehicles daily and in various emergency situations while adhering to all safety protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities
Custodian:
Collects and disposes of all accumulated trash. Checks areas frequently for proper operation and/or cleanliness of facilities. Informs the supervisor of inadequate conditions of any aspects of facilities. Calls central control to have the facility burglar alarm system turned on or off, as appropriate, and assists with resetting fire alarms systems by checking all stations throughout the facility. Works with facility supervisors in arranging furniture in offices and open areas.
Maintenance & Labor:
Monitors proper operations within facilities and makes minor adjustments and repairs or alterations within facilities. Performs special field activity duties as required to prepare ball fields for season sports events. Obtains supplies and equipment needed for work assignments. Loads vehicles and drives non CDL vehicles to and from work site locations as directed. Hauls trash and debris, supplies, and any other special equipment for usage or removal. Operates snowplow and salt truck to remove ice and snow from roads and assigned areas. Maintains all equipment needed for snow removal.

Ability to do the work of the postion without more than normal supervison

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
The incumbent of this position must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions/Environment
Building and general maintenance work is normally performed indoors, and grounds maintenance is performed outside during all types of weather. Based on the assignments the incumbent is confronted with a variety of conditions such as extreme heat and cold. Also, the incumbent is subject to receive abrasions, cuts, splinters, and bruises, fall off ladders, strains, and burns or fumes inhalation when exposed to strong cleaning chemicals.
