Special Education Teacher Assistant Job DescriptionPosition Summary:

The Special Education Teacher Assistant provides instructional, behavioral, and administrative support to teachers and students in special education settings. This role assists in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), supporting students with disabilities, and ensuring a positive, inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist special education teachers in delivering tailored instruction based on students' IEPs.
Provide one-on-one and small-group support to students with diverse learning needs.
Help manage classroom behavior using positive reinforcement techniques.
Assist students with daily tasks, including academic work, communication, and social skills.
Support students with personal care needs (if applicable), such as mobility, feeding, or hygiene.
Prepare and modify instructional materials under teacher supervision.
Track student progress and provide feedback to the teacher and support staff.
Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, and breaks.
Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and parents to enhance student learning.
Maintain a safe and structured classroom environment.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field (required).
Experience working with children with disabilities (preferred).
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Patience, empathy, and the ability to adapt to various student needs.
Ability to assist with physical tasks, including lifting/moving students when necessary.

Preferred Skills:

Knowledge of special education strategies and interventions.
Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive learning tools.
Experience with behavior management techniques (e.g., ABA strategies, PBIS).
Basic proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or alternative communication methods (preferred).

Work Environment:

School-based setting, working in classrooms, playgrounds, and other learning spaces.
May involve working with students with physical, emotional, or developmental disabilities.

Job Types: Temporary, Contract

Pay: $19.00 - $21.00 per hour
