Position: Practice Assistant (Part-Time, Hybrid)
Location: Alexandria, VA 22310 (In-office Tuesdays and Thursdays, remote Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays - subject to change)
Schedule: Part-time with some flexibility
Compensation: Starting at $20/hour, negotiable based on experience
Position Summary
Spindle Health is seeking a friendly, experienced Practice Assistant with a strong interest in patient-centered care and improving healthcare access. This is a unique opportunity to join a growing medical practice in a part-time, hybrid role that offers both flexibility and meaningful, hands-on experience.
As a Practice Assistant, you will serve as the operational hub of our team, managing front office functions, supporting clinical staff, and helping to create a welcoming and organized environment for our patients.
Key Responsibilities
Administrative & Front Desk Duties:
- Greet and assist patients during check-in/check-out
- Manage patient registration and intake
- Respond to patient inquiries by phone and message
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date patient records
- Support appointment scheduling and follow-up communication
- Facilitate information flow between systems and team members
- Participate in virtual team meetings and contribute to process improvement
Clinical Support:
- Take and document vital signs
- Perform phlebotomy and collect laboratory specimens
- Administer injections and immunizations
- Assist with minor in-office procedures
- Coordinate lab pickups, including STAT orders
- Help with medication prior authorizations and refill requests
- Perform additional clinical tasks as assigned by the care team
What We’re Looking For – Must Haves:
- Available to work in the office Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10 am–4 pm
- At least 1 year of clinical experience as a medical assistant, with phlebotomy skills
- Experience handling lab specimens and coordinating lab courier pickups
- Strong interpersonal skills; compassionate and professional communication style
- Ability to multitask with excellent attention to detail
- Comfortable working independently and solving problems within defined guidelines
- Committed to inclusive care for patients of all identities and backgrounds
- Tech-savvy and confident using platforms like G-Suite, Slack, Zocdoc, Aircall, and Phreesia
- CPR certified
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. and able to pass a background check
- Fluent in English
- Reliable computer/laptop with high-speed internet
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have):
- Experience working in a telehealth or primary care setting
- Prior exposure to early-stage or fast-growing healthcare startups
- Proficiency in medical terminology
- Certification as a CMA, RMA, EMT, LPN, or enrollment in a pre-health professional program
- Phlebotomy certification from an accredited training course
