Job Overview:
We are seeking a energetic and reliable Busser/ Food Runner to join our upcoming Ugly Dumpling Fairfax, VA location! The Busser plays a vital role in ensuring a positive dining experience by maintaining a clean, organized dining area and supporting the serving staff. This role is essential for providing quick turnover of tables and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the restaurant. In this hybrid role, you will assist with both bussing tables and running food to guests. The Busser/Food Runner plays an essential part in ensuring smooth operations by keeping the dining area clean, assisting servers, and delivering food quickly and accurately. This position is ideal for those who enjoy working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Table Clearing and Resetting: Quickly and efficiently clear used dishes, glassware, and utensils from tables. Reset tables with fresh linens, utensils, and glassware for new guests.
- Maintain Cleanliness: Ensure the dining area is clean and organized by wiping down tables, sweeping floors, and removing any debris.
- Stocking and Organizing: Replenish service stations with clean utensils, napkins, and condiments. Ensure all supplies are available for the servers to use throughout the shift.
- Support to Servers: Assist servers by refilling water glasses, delivering bread or other items to guests, and ensuring tables are ready for the next course.
- Food Delivery: Quickly and accurately deliver food from the kitchen to guests’ tables, ensuring proper presentation and order accuracy.
- Menu Knowledge: Familiarize yourself with the restaurant’s menu and specials to ensure you can describe dishes to guests and answer basic questions about the food.
- Assisting with Special Requests: Handle any special requests, such as extra sauces or sides, ensuring guests have everything they need to enjoy their meal.
- Communication with Kitchen Staff: Act as a liaison between the kitchen and the dining room, ensuring orders are delivered promptly and correctly.
General Responsibilities:
- Guest Interaction: Maintain a friendly and professional demeanor when interacting with guests, ensuring their needs are met promptly.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the serving staff, kitchen team, and other bussers/food runners to ensure smooth service and guest satisfaction.
- Adherence to Safety and Sanitation Standards: Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines, including proper handling of dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
- Side Work: Assist with additional duties such as polishing silverware, folding napkins, restocking supplies, and cleaning service stations.
Requirements:
- Experience: Previous experience as a Busser, Food Runner, or in a restaurant setting is preferred but not required. Entry-level candidates with a strong work ethic are welcome.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, time management, and multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with food safety practices and restaurant operations is a plus.
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand for long periods, move quickly between tables, carry trays, and lift up to 30 lbs.
- Availability: Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
