The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations. This position involves working in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting, ensuring the proper collection, labeling, and storage of specimens.

Perform blood draws using straight and butterfly needles.

Label specimens and centrifuge them as required.

Record maintenance data and decontaminate equipment.

Update patient information accurately.

Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously.

Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

Package specimens for transport and ensure they are stored at required temperatures.

Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

Attend annual department trainings.

Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

High School Diploma or GED.

1 year of experience in phlebotomy required.

Experience working with patients from pediatrics to geriatrics required.

Ability to perform 25+ draws daily.

Experience in patient care and patient service.

Skills in specimen processing and labeling.
The work environment includes patient service centers and doctors' offices, with the candidate expected to stand for 4-6 hours. The role involves working with a team or independently, depending on the location, and requires 3 weeks of training. The position covers various locations within Silver Spring, MD, with a first shift schedule from Monday to Friday between 7:30am and 5:30pm, 40 hours.
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $21.00/hr.
