Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Nutrition Assistant to join our team at the Fairfax County WIC site, where you’ll play a key role in delivering essential nutrition services to women, infants, and children. As a Nutrition Assistant, you will certify eligible participants, evaluate nutritional risks, and recommend personalized food packages to meet their specific needs.
Your primary responsibilities will include conducting dietary assessments, collecting clinical data, and providing nutrition education and counseling for low-risk clients. Clients requiring specialized care will be referred to a Nutritionist. This position requires precise documentation of all certifications and nutrition-related activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduation or a GED issued by a department of education
- Six hours of nutrition, dietetics, community health, biology, chemistry, sociology, and/or a related coursework.
- One year of customer service experience in community health, social services, public health environment, nutrition, and/or related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferred candidates will have a college degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field.
- Previous WIC experience preferred.
- Proficiency in recordkeeping and in use of Microsoft Office software applications (Word, Excel).
- Position requires the candidate to be proactive, exercise good judgment, use critical thinking skills, be organized, and have excellent customer service skills.
- Must possess clear oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment.
