Recreation Coordinator for Park Rangers, Permits and Special Events
JOB SUMMARY AND DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK:
The Park Ranger I performs a variety of park management support tasks. Patrols and inspects parks throughout the City, enforces rules and regulations to ensure compliance and performs some conservation work as required including leading nature interpretation and educational programs. Assists with ensuring public safety through education and enforcement. Assists in performing and developing day-to-day operations that include participation in the maintenance and development of facilities.

Provides general assistance to park visitors. Answers questions and conducts programs concerning nature, conservation issues, wildlife, park regulations, etc. Conducts tours of parks.
Patrols predominantly on foot, as well as in vehicles e.g., automobiles or bicycles. Locks and secures gates and facilities.
Cooperates with and provides limited assistance to local law enforcement/public safety agencies as may be required.
Refers complaints, criminal acts and complicated issues to proper resource e.g., higher level Supervisor, City Police, etc.
Patrols and inspects park properties and facilities to ensure safety of the public, natural resources and park property.
Reports any unsafe, hazardous, unsanitary or inappropriate unsafe park equipment, etc. to proper authorities.
Encourages compliance with City rules and regulations.
Checks special-use permits and required licenses for activities within parks.
Participates in providing security for special park and recreation events and other programs.
Completes forms and records related to park operations. Provides input used by management in budget preparation and control.
Within City park facilities, assists with monitoring motor vehicle traffic and parking.
May provide limited assistance to crews carrying out park, building or grounds maintenance projects.
Make recommendations for the purchase of routine supplies and materials
Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED;
College attendance or degree in a related field desirable;
or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Incumbent must be at least 18 years of age and must possess valid driver’s license.
CPR/AED/First Aid Certification Narcan Certification
National Association of State Fire Marshalls Crowd Manager Certification
Mental Health First Aid Certification (preferred)
Ability to pass a background check
Knowledge of:
Knowledge of parks and park activities
Environmental Science, Nature; Recreation
Safety; City policies, procedures and activities
Microsoft Office Suite of Applications
Ability to apply specialized procedures and regulations
Kayaking, Hiking, and other outdoor skills (preferred)
Ability to maintain professional demeanor and effectively communicate with park patrons, including patrons who are in distress or elevated emotional states.
Ability to work without close supervision
Ability to maintain positive, effective working relationships with colleagues, instructors, and community partners
Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50lbs
- City Parks, Playgrounds, Forest Preserves, Greenbelt Lake and interior walking paths
- City of Greenbelt Facilities, including Recreation facilities and surrounding grounds
- Outdoor Work is conducted in all four seasons, which may include inclement weather, heat, or cold.
