The Senate Sergeant at Arms is seeking a Lead Capitol Postal Facilities. Assists with the supervision and review of the work of mail carriers, window clerks, and CAS mail specialists; resolves problems that arise. Assists with job assignments to personnel, monitoring time and attendance, and administering personnel regulations including requests for leave and training. Maintains records of mail delivered during the shift; assures distribution of important documents. Maintains equipment, machinery, and supplies. Oversight of incoming mail processes for adherence to policy, procedure, and security, at all locations including the CAS. Other duties as assigned.

Other Duties/ Responsibilities
- May serve as Mail Shift Supervisor in their absence.
Required Work Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in mail facility operations.
Required Special Skills/ Knowledge
- Ability to use a personal computer with knowledge of Microsoft products, to include word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
- Ability to obtain pulmonary, X-ray and respiratory fit certifications.
- Ability to work in an air-controlled environment while properly don/doffing personal protective equipment.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn USPS and US Senate handling policies and procedures.
- Ability to operate a variety of portable equipment and facility materials; including the ability to learn to operate an electric pallet jack.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, to recognize threats pertaining to suspicious/hazardous mail.
- Must complete annual threat recognition training.
- Ability to speak to Senate staff, and the public, when answering questions or fulfilling service requests.
- Requires the ability to safely lift (share weight) up to 100 lbs.
- Ability to maintain the OSHA Power Pallet Jack Operator Safety Training.
- Ability to work independently and complete tasks/projects with minimal guidance.

Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of mailroom operational procedures including U.S. Postal Service regulations and procedures.
- Ability to operate and accurately enter information into a computer, handheld device and cellular phone and mail processing equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and others encountered during the shift.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to follow directives and standard operating procedures.
Working Conditions
- This position requires an onsite presence and directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate when in session. As such, this position requires the employee be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays, weekends, and during late nights to ensure essential services to the Senate continue without interruption. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
- Carrying or lifting Items of 50 lbs. individually or shared weight of 100 lbs.
- Work will require being outdoors infrequently and in varying weather conditions.
- Walking to CAS to monitor performance.
- Frequent standing, walking, and bending.
- Work involves learning the use and operations of an X-ray machine.
- Exposes employees to dust and other potential threats through the mail.
- Requires use of powered and non-powered pallet jacks.
- Employees will infrequently be required to don and doff a respirator, N-95, Gloves, and Tyvek suit.
- Pushing, pulling heavy hand trucks and mail carts.
