Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Certified Pediatric Medical Assistant (CPMA) to join our pediatric healthcare team. The ideal candidate will assist physicians and other clinical staff in delivering high-quality care to infants, children, and adolescents. This role involves a combination of administrative and clinical responsibilities, with a strong emphasis on patient interaction, family education, and pediatric-specific care protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Prepare exam rooms and assist during pediatric examinations and procedures
- Record patient history, vital signs, height, weight, and developmental milestones
- Administer vaccines and medications as directed by providers, following proper pediatric dosage protocols
- Perform routine lab tests, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing
- Assist with vision, hearing, and developmental screenings
- Provide patient and family education on medications, follow-up care, and general health topics
- Ensure exam rooms and equipment are cleaned, sanitized, and stocked
- Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines
Administrative Duties:
- Schedule appointments, referrals, and follow-up visits
- Document patient encounters accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system
- Verify insurance and assist with pre-authorizations for procedures or medications
- Manage immunization records and school/daycare forms
- Coordinate communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
- Certification required: CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), or equivalent credential
- Current CPR/BLS certification
- 1–2 years of experience in a pediatric or family practice setting preferred
- Strong knowledge of pediatric growth and development stages
- Proficiency with EHR systems (e.g., eClinicalWorks, Epic, Athenahealth)
Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially with children and families
- Calm, patient, and nurturing demeanor in stressful situations
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced team environment
- Commitment to patient safety and confidentiality (HIPAA compliance)
- Phlebotomy experience is a plus
Work Environment & Schedule:
- In Office
- Monday through Friday (office hours 7am – 5pm); occasional Saturdays (8am – 12pm) are required
- Requires standing, walking, and lifting infants or small children as needed
