Position Title: CDL DRIVER

Location: Unity Disposal & Recycling

Reports to: Operations Manager

Status: Full-Time

Salary: Daily Rate – Paid Weekly

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Unity Disposal and Recycling, LLC is the Leading Prime Contractor in Montgomery County MSW and has an immediate opening for a REAR-END ROUTE DRIVER in their Flagship Operation located in Laurel, Maryland. Eligible Candidates will be responsible for driving a State-of-The-Art Garbage Truck on specified routes to mechanically and manually collect solid waste and transport it to appropriate disposal sites. Daily work will involve driving trash truck & supporting helper/crew with heavy industrial lifting, lifting waist high, gripping with hands, moving at a brisk consistent pace, and occasional bending. This position will also be responsible for safely, clean route efficiently, and professional customer service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Ability to report to duty on-time (6:00 a.m.)
A typical schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, with an occasional Saturday as needed or as a result of sliding holidays or weather
Perform Complete Pre/Post-Trip Inspections and periodic inspections throughout working tour
Ability to safely operate a garbage truck on specified routes to collect solid waste
Ability to read route sheets and service each customer identified on the sheet or assigned by the Supervisor or Dispatcher
Ability to perform and support manual trash pickups with the assistance of 1-Helper
Be able to work at a skilled pace and team with assigned Helper
Must be able to follow safe operating practices to include…
Operate vehicle safely and in all types of inclement weather
Operate hydraulic hand controls to lift/load refuse and dispose of trash at designated facilities.
Must be able to communicate internally and externally using professional interpersonal skills and good customer service techniques
Must be able to follow Supervisor/Dispatch directives to include supporting other area routes in cases of volume overages, equipment breakdowns, etc

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Required DOT physical fitness, with the ability to physically mobilize (i.e., get in and out of vehicle) throughout various stages of the route and in support of helper/crew.
Ability to lift, pushing, or pulling required containers or objects over 75 pounds.
Work environment involves working with moving mechanical parts (i.e., Totter Lift) requiring basic safety precautions.
Although in driving capacity the majority of time, Driver is exposed to outside weather, including frequent wet and/or humid conditions, as well as exposure to fumes and normal vehicle vibration.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Class B CDL License
Must have 2yrs truck driving experience
Ability to read, write, comprehend and communicate in English in accordance with the DOT regulations and company policy
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Minimum 1-year of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
Basic knowledge of truck components in order to complete pre- and post-trip inspections
Waste experience preferred, but not required
