The purpose of this position is to operate refuse and roll-off trucks, dump trucks, rubber-tire loader, tractor, front-end loader, backhoe, bobcat, milling machine, sweeper, forklift, flush truck and trailer, bush hog, snow removal equipment and other maintenance equipment. Employees in this classification prepare and maintain division work records; and perform general maintenance on equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Operates medium to heavy equipment to perform streets and maintenance repair, including but not limited to vehicles and equipment listed above.
2. Repairs, within town limits, potholes, signs, fences and roads; paints road markings; constructs asphalt repairs; spreads gravel and stone; cleans and unclogs catch basins.
3. May serve as lead worker on job sites; gives instructions and coordinates activities.
4. Cleans town streets with sweeper vehicle; collects leaves during leaf collection season.
5. Collects roadside trash; cleans ditches; cleans storm sewers; lays pipe.
6. Performs general maintenance of equipment.
7. Sets up safe work zones according to standards; flags traffic during road and rights-of-way maintenance.
8. Lays brick for sidewalks, crosswalks and other walks.
9. Assists with Miss Utility tickets.
10. Prepares and maintains division work records as needed.
11. Performs snow, ice and other emergency services in town as required.
12. Assists with town special events as required.
13. Performs other duties as required.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Supplemented by a minimum of one years’ experience involving heavy equipment and vehicle operation
- Local municipality public works experience strongly preferred
- Possession of Flagger Certification or the ability to obtain within six months of employment
- Possession of Tanker endorsement or the ability to obtain within one year of employment
- Class B commercial driver’s license with air brakes or the ability to obtain within six months of employment
Essential Personnel Notice:
This position is considered "essential personnel"; defined as staff who are required to report to their designated work location during weather-related or other emergencies, even when town offices are closed or normal operations are suspended.

Due to the nature of a government providing services to the public all duties of this position are required to be fulfilled at the designated worksite in the town. No remote work is available.
