This position is located in the District of Columbia National Guard (DCNG), Capital Guardian Youth ChalleNGe Academy (CGYCA), District of Columbia Government Operations. The mission of CGYCA is to intervene in and reclaim the lives of 16-18-year-old high school dropouts to produce program graduates with the values, life-skills, education, and self-discipline necessary to succeed as productive citizens.
The mission of DCGO is to provide exceptional customer support to DCNG, while serving the District, and the community. "Working Together Towards Tomorrow".
The position functions as a Math Training Instructor responsible for providing course instruction and guidance to Cadets for successful completion of the academic subjects such as Mathematics.
- Develops, directs, and coordinates the academic and citizenship program of the ChalleNGe Academy. Provides instruction in the full range of academic classes in preparation for General Educational Development (GED) testing, for earning a DC High school diploma, or observing online credit recovery instruction for re-entry to high school.
- Provides instruction in citizenship courses to provide a strong understanding of individual rights and responsibilities that will allow youth to be successful in the community and become a productive individual of society.
- Participates in selecting curriculum, coordinating academic program activities, evaluating academic skill levels, and providing other services that improve youth's academic success to enable lifelong learning skills and personal growth.
- Analyzes and prepares pertinent data/information needed for reports and other special projects. Compiles documents or information on training activities or other request as needed.
- Participates in the development of training aids or material to support individual needs. Organizes and participates in training activities or seminars. Evaluates individual's progress and resolves informal complaints and problems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Practical knowledge of general education and training and the principles and techniques of education to assist with the growth and development of youth. General knowledge of various state/local education requirements and education models.
- Skill and experience working in a classroom setting, providing general guidance on a variety of basic academic subjects.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others orally and in writing to formulate and present ideas, reports, and explain and interpret training information.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments. Ability to work well under pressure and to meet strict deadlines.
- Knowledge and skills in developing strategies to assist Cadets in dealing with educational and vocational needs when leaving the Academy.
- Basic knowledge of computer programs to be used in entering program data.
- The Incumbent must possess a valid motor vehicle license.
- The incumbent must possess and maintain certification in CPR/First Aid
Pay: $62,158.00 - $80,032.00 per year
