Job Title: Case Worker – Human Services Specialist III
Rate: $24.00/hour
Position Type: Full-Time
Location: Montgomery County, MD
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (On-site only; not a remote position)
Position Summary:
The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a dedicated Human Services Specialist III to provide direct case management and support services for individuals involved in domestic abuse cases. This role focuses on delivering management and coordination services for both survivors and perpetrators, ensuring compliance with program goals and facilitating access to community resources and interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
Intake/Assessment:
- Obtain client-specific information, including background, physical–psychic trauma, mental health/substance abuse, and other needs/concerns/issues.
- Make an evaluation; perform initial and follow-up assessments or program eligibility determinations.
- Make referrals in both English and Spanish.
Case Management:
- Provide bilingual information, guidance, and assistance to clients by enrolling them in, directly linking them to, or referring them to available community resources, including programs, services, and benefits.
- Collaborate with criminal justice providers.
- Attend case consultation meetings with internal/external providers to discuss client service plans and service outcomes.
Documentation:
- Prepare, maintain, and document case records accurately.
- Prepare reports as required.
- Provide comprehensive case management and follow-up services to assigned clients.
- Support both survivors and perpetrators of domestic abuse with a trauma-informed and balanced approach.
- Work with court-ordered and mandated clients, maintaining professionalism and sensitivity.
- Manage service plans, documentation, and progress reports in compliance with program requirements.
- Coordinate with internal and external partners, including social service agencies, courts, and treatment providers.
- Demonstrate strong communication and de-escalation skills when handling resistant or high-conflict clients.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Experience working with court-mandated or high-risk client populations.
- Strong interpersonal and crisis management skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and empathy in challenging situations.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish preferred.
