Please note: The salary range above represents this position’s earning potential. The anticipated hiring range for this position will be as follows based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
If filled at the Part-Time Social Worker I, Grade 21, the hiring range is $35,278 - 38,802.50 based on 20 hours a week.
If filled at the Part-Time Social Worker II, Grade 23, the hiring range is $38,371 - $53,903 based on 20 hours a week.

Child Welfare Services (CWS) provides a variety of supportive services to children and families to reduce the risk of child maltreatment and ensure safety for children. When it is not possible for children to remain in their own homes, temporary placement in foster care, with relatives, or with an adoptive family may be arranged.

The primary purpose of this position is to perform professional social work in case management and counseling services to children and families affected by abuse and neglect, in support ofpermanencyplanning efforts across all out-of-home service delivery units in Child Welfare Services. This position may also provide oversightofVoluntary Placement Agreement(VPA)cases. The VPA Case Manageris responsible foroverseeing cases that allow the parents to obtainout-of-hometreatment while stillretainingcustody of the child. The role involves assessing family needs, coordinating placement services,developingandmonitoringservice plans, and ensuring compliance with state regulations. The Case Manager works closely with families, foster care providers, legal representatives, and multidisciplinary teams to support reunification or alternativepermanencyoutcomes.
As a Child Welfare Social Worker, you will be required to:

Operate a motor vehicle to transport children, supplies, and equipmentto other locations

Havesome flexibility in rotating schedules, based on casework and operational needs
There are two part-time Social Worker I/II positions available. One position will be assigned to our Screening Unit, and the other position will be assigned to an Out-of-Home unit and will be responsible for an out-of-home/VPA caseload.
Selected candidates for this position will be subject to a pre-employment medical exam, and drug screening and criminal history records check through the Maryland State Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Candidates will also be checked through the Maryland Registry for Child Abuse and Neglect and federal and state sex offender registries. Any applicant who fails the medical exam, background check or whose name appears on either of the registries may be disqualified from employment for this position.
Social Worker I
Education: Possession of a master’s degree in social work (MSW) from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of a graduate social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Experience: None
License: Must be licensed as a Licensed Master Social Worker– LMSW, or higher, by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment. Note: There will be no substitutions for this requirement.
Driver's License Required: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class C (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence.
Note: Some duties may require driving a County Vehicle.
Social Worker II
Education: Possession of a master’s degree in social work (MSW) from an accredited college or university that meets the criteria of a graduate social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education.
Experience: At least one year of social work experience under the supervision of an LCSW or LCSW-C in accordance with Maryland Board requirements.
License: Must be licensed as a Licensed Master Social Worker– LMSW, or higher, by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment. Note: There will be no substitutions for this requirement.
Driver's License Required: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid Class C (or equivalent) driver's license from the applicant's state of residence.
