The Prince George’s County Department of The Environment is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Animal Control Officer,(Animal Control Officer I/II) grade A15-A17 position, in the Animal Services Division.
About the Position
This is an entry level to full performance inspection and code enforcement work to ensure compliance with animal control codes, ordinances, and standards. Subject to extensive public contact, incumbents perform the full range of assignments in apprehending and confining stray, unlicensed, and wild animals during a tour of patrol within an assigned area or in response to complaints. Work assignments are performed in accordance with departmental standards, rules, and regulations and are performed under the general supervision of higher-level Animal Control Officers. This work involves exposure to hostile citizens, aggressive animals, blood borne pathogens, animal body fluids and varying weather conditions with exposure to the elements. Work in this class involves driving a County vehicle and may include physical activities such as long periods of standing and/or walking, repeated bending, climbing, kneeling, crawling, reaching, stooping or crouching, lifting and carrying animals weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds. While performing these duties, the incumbent may be working in small, cramped spaces to capture animals and may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, and unsanitary conditions.

Some of our core services include providing clean water services (Stormwater Management Division); flooding prevention for buildings and structures (Sustainability Division and Stormwater Management Division); collecting, processing and diverting waste from the County-operated landfill, commercial facilities and householders (Resource Recovery Division); providing sustainability services to reduce greenhouse gas and emission (Sustainability Division); and facilitating pet adoptions, managing an animal holding facility, issuing pet licenses, investigating cruelty complaints and conducting humane outreach and education events (Animal Services Division).
