Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team at MEMC. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in addiction counseling and mental health support, with the ability to provide effective psychotherapy and crisis intervention to women living in a recovery home. This role involves working with individuals and families affected by substance abuse, utilizing evidence-based practices to promote recovery and well-being. The Substance Abuse Counselor will be responsible for conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and providing both individual and group therapy.

Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to evaluate substance use issues and co-occurring mental health conditions.
Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, incorporating motivational interviewing techniques.
Provide individual and group counseling sessions utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy and other therapeutic modalities.
Facilitate crisis intervention services to support patients in acute distress.
Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, including intake forms, progress notes, and treatment summaries.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and ensure comprehensive support for patients.
Engage in case management activities to assist patients in accessing community resources and support services.
Conduct research and data collection to inform best practices in addiction medicine and behavioral health.
Provide education on addiction issues to patients and their families, fostering understanding of the recovery process.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
Valid licensure or certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor or equivalent.
Experience in psychotherapy, crisis management, and behavioral therapy preferred.
Familiarity with medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and medical records management.
Knowledge of PTSD care, home & community care experience, and hospital experience is advantageous.
Strong skills in patient assessment, case management, group therapy facilitation, and addiction counseling techniques.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse populations.
