Public Works Crew Member
This position is an entry-level position responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of town buildings, grounds, parks and sports fields.
Essential Tasks:
- Maintain water lines
- Maintain public rights-of-way to include streets and sidewalks
- Maintain public restroom facilities
- Read and report water meter readings
- Snow/Ice removal
- Perform water testing
- Operate machinery and equipment
- Landscaping and lawncare: operating lawnmowers, weed trimmers, leaf blowers and other ground maintenance equipment
- Collect litter and garbage from town property
- Maintain tools and equipment; make minor repairs
- Assist in the maintenance and landscaping of parks and Town property and facilities
- Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures
- Perform general labor tasks
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must test, obtain and maintain a Water Treatment T-3 and T-5 Temporary License within 12 months of start of employment.
- Knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance principles
- Must have and maintain a valid Maryland driver’s license.
- Skills in problem solving
- Skills in interpersonal relations
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Water Treatment T-3 and T-5 Arsenic License, preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Must have the use of sensory skills as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls to effectively communicate and interact with other employees, elected officials, and the public using the telephone and personal contact.
- Physical capability to lift 80 pounds.
- Moderate levels of walking, standing, sitting, and lifting.
- Must wear proper personal protective equipment at all times.
- Mandatory random drug screenings
· On-call rotation will be required; must be able to answer/respond to situations within a timely manner. Weekends, nights and special events are required from time to time.
Work Environment
· Potential exposure to all weather and environmental conditions, inside and out, hot and cold; snow, rain, dusty and muddy
· Working in confined spaces
