Position Summary
This role contributes to the Tier 2 Network Operations Center (NOC), responsible for incident management within the operational environment. The specialist will diagnose system and network failures and resolve basic technical queries. The position requires attention to detail, multitasking, and collaboration with team members to maintain high availability networks, messaging systems, and Air-to-Ground data communications systems.
Primary Responsibilities
- Monitor network management systems and coordinate with telecom providers to restore services.
- Track incident details accurately and update the incident management tool promptly.
- Troubleshoot and resolve routine system and network issues; escalate complex issues to senior team members.
- Apply technical knowledge to support high availability IP networks and connected systems.
- Work with senior team members to resolve moderate to complex issues impacting critical services.
- Use discretion to interpret and apply established processes; errors may have widespread impact.
- Monitor and troubleshoot system performance; resolve or escalate network issues as necessary.
- Participate in network solutions design and configuration.
- Train on three NOC positions (Transport, DataLink, Applications) over 4–6 months.
- Transport: Monitor all network components, including routers, switches, firewalls, and circuits.
- DataLink: Monitor ground stations, radios, and central processing systems for air-to-ground communications.
- Applications: Monitor central channels connected to routers that handle daily message flow.
- Provide guidance to customers and business units to resolve technical problems.
- Exhibit strong customer service skills and efficiency in multitasking, prioritizing, and delegating responsibilities.
Required Qualifications
- Network+ Certification
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking protocols, computer hardware/software interconnections
- Understanding of ITIL/ITSM concepts and practices
- Experience troubleshooting Cisco devices
- Familiarity with HSRP/BGP routing protocols
- Education & Experience:
- AA/AS degree or equivalent 2-year post-high school training with 1–2 years relevant experience OR
- High School Diploma/GED with 2 years relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications
- CCNA Certification
- Knowledge of Remedy, Netcool, Office 365, ServiceNow
