Acorn Hill Waldorf Kindergarten and Nursery in Silver Spring, Maryland is seeking an early childhood Afternoon Assistant. This hourly position works Monday-Friday from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm, with additional hours for faculty meetings, training weeks beginning mid-August of 2026, and an additional week after the close of classes in June of 2027. Participation in school events, parent meetings, and professional development is expected.
This program is primarily outdoors. The ideal candidate will have some understanding of Waldorf pedagogy, early childhood education training and teaching experience, and possess a love and commitment to being outdoors with children in almost all weather.. Commitment to working collegially is essential.
All employees must meet Maryland State and Montgomery County licensing requirements, including completing the 90 hour course or equivalent, ADA, and CPR/first aid. In addition, they need to pass a background check, including fingerprinting, and must possess the legal right to work in the United States. Physical stamina (ability to engage in outdoor activities including lifting up to 30 pounds, carrying hardwood logs, chairs and benches, carrying a full sack of bedding, or the occasional struggling child) is helpful and encouraged.
