Job Overview

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Warehouse Assistant & Driver to join our dynamic logistics team. ALIVE!’s Operations & Logistics team is responsible for four core functions: pickups, deliveries, warehouse management, and inventory management across our food distribution network. The role is hands-on requiring daily driving, lifting, and warehouse work, and is central to keeping food moving reliably from donors and partners to the clients ALIVE! serves.

Key Responsibilities

Vehicle & Equipment Readiness – Perform a daily vehicle check and fueling at the start of each shift; flag maintenance needs before they become route delays.
Hub Preparation & Support – Support morning prep at food hubs (e.g., West End, Del Ray) alongside other Assistant Warehouse staff, helping hubs open earlier and more consistently.
Pickups & Deliveries – Complete scheduled donation pickups (grocery stores, food drives, community donors) and deliveries to food hubs, partner pantries, the 801 Warehouse, and distribution sites; serve as a driver as needed across the team’s routes.
Warehouse Management – Load, unload, and organize inventory, pallets, and donations at the 619 Warehouse; support opening and closing duties; keep cooler, freezer, and dry-goods areas organized.
Inventory Management – Complete hand counts, reconcile donations, and submit admin inventory documentation and delivery slips accurately and on time.
Afternoon Coverage – Take ownership of afternoon warehouse organizing, admin inventory submission, and closing duties Tuesday–Friday, supporting senior staff to focus on inventory monitoring and process improvement at the 801 Warehouse.
Volunteer Backup – Provide same-day backup coverage for pickups or deliveries when scheduled volunteers do not show.
Saturday Distribution – Serve as the primary Saturday team member (7:00 AM–3:00 PM),Fresh Market Distribution (6:00 AM-2:00pm) covering Duke Giant and Wegmans donation pickups, Wegmans and Giant Saturday donations, Catholic Charities fresh bread pickup, Farmers Market support, food drives (500+ lbs), Community Fresh Market distribution, and unloading after events.
Other Duties as Assigned – Support occasional one-off tasks and special requests as operational needs arise, without compromising the core functions above.

Qualifications

Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; comfortable driving box trucks and/or cargo vans.
Experience using manual pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, and manual stackers is preferred but not required. Training will be provided.
Ability to repeatedly lift and carry 30–50 lbs and stand, walk, and load/unload materials for extended periods.
Reliable and punctual, with the ability to consistently work a Tuesday–Saturday schedule, including Saturday mornings.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly for inventory counts and documentation.
Comfortable working both independently on a route and as part of a small, close-knit team.
Prior experience in warehouse, logistics, food service, or nonprofit operations preferred but not required.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Onboarding & Supervision

The new hire will spend the first two weeks working closely with Current Assistant Warehouse Drivers for hands-on training across core operational tasks, following a “Show, Do, Review” approach: demonstration, guided execution, and structured feedback. After this period, responsibilities will transition gradually toward independent route and warehouse ownership, with regular check-ins to reinforce expectations and operational standards.

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
