Job Summary:
The Continent DC, an upscale West African restaurant, is seeking a charismatic, polished, and highly organized Host/Hostess to be the first and last impression for our guests. This role requires exceptional hospitality, strong attention to detail, and the ability to create a seamless and memorable dining experience for every guest.
As a Host/Hostess, you will be responsible for greeting guests with warmth and professionalism, managing reservations, and coordinating table seating to ensure efficiency and guest satisfaction. You will be the first point of contact, setting the tone for an unforgettable experience at The Continent DC.
Responsibilities: Guest Experience & Hospitality:
- Greet guests promptly with a warm and welcoming demeanor.
- Escort guests to their tables while engaging them with friendly conversation.
- Ensure every guest feels valued and accommodated, whether they have a reservation or are walk-ins.
- Maintain a high standard of hospitality by anticipating guest needs and responding to special requests.
- Recognize repeat guests and VIPs, providing personalized service to enhance their experience.
- Handle guest concerns or complaints with professionalism and communicate with management when necessary.
Reservation & Seating Management:
- Manage reservations efficiently using OpenTable, Resy, or other reservation systems.
- Plan and control the flow of guests by strategically seating parties to optimize dining room operations.
- Maintain an accurate waitlist during busy hours, providing guests with estimated wait times and regular updates.
- Ensure the dining area operates smoothly by coordinating with servers, bartenders, and kitchen staff.
Communication & Coordination:
- Communicate effectively with the management team, servers, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth service.
- Provide accurate information about wait times, menu offerings, and restaurant policies.
- Answer phone calls professionally, assist with inquiries, and process takeout orders when necessary.
Organization & Cleanliness:
- Maintain a well-organized and presentable host stand at all times.
- Assist in light cleaning duties such as wiping menus, organizing the entrance area, and keeping the waiting area tidy.
- Monitor the dining room for open tables and promptly reset them for the next guests.
Requirements & Expectations:
- Proven experience in a host/hostess or front-of-house role at a high-end or fast-paced restaurant.
- Exceptional communication skills and a warm, welcoming personality.
- Strong ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure during peak hours.
- A polished, professional appearance with a strong sense of hospitality and etiquette.
- Experience using reservation platforms such as OpenTable, Resy, or SevenRooms (preferred but not required).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive and energetic attitude.
