Job Summary:
The Continent DC, an upscale West African restaurant, is looking for professional, energetic, and service-driven Servers to deliver an exceptional dining experience to our guests. This role requires strong hospitality skills, menu knowledge, and the ability to provide attentive, seamless service in a fast-paced, upscale environment.
As a Server, you will be responsible for guiding guests through our unique menu, providing expert recommendations, and ensuring that every dining experience is memorable. Responsibilities:Guest Experience & Hospitality:
- Greet guests warmly and establish a genuine rapport.
- Provide knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive service to all guests.
- Explain menu items with expertise, including ingredients, preparation methods, and flavor profiles, while making thoughtful recommendations.
- Suggest wine, cocktails, and other beverage pairings to enhance the dining experience.
- Anticipate guest needs, promptly refilling drinks, checking on satisfaction, and addressing any concerns with professionalism.
- Recognize and accommodate special dietary needs, allergies, and guest preferences.
- Create a warm and inviting atmosphere by engaging with guests in a professional and personable manner.
Order Management & Coordination:
- Take accurate food and drink orders, input them into the POS system, and ensure timely delivery.
- Collaborate with kitchen and bar staff to guarantee a smooth flow of service.
- Monitor tables, ensuring guests receive the correct orders and that all requests are met promptly.
- Handle modifications and special requests efficiently while communicating with the kitchen when necessary.
Sales & Upselling:
- Enhance the guest experience by suggestively selling appetizers, signature dishes, desserts, and specialty cocktails.
- Inform guests of daily specials, promotions, and upcoming events at The Continent DC.
- Demonstrate a deep knowledge of West African cuisine and culture to educate and excite guests.
Cleanliness & Organization:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-presented section throughout service.
- Assist in pre-shift and closing duties, including side work, table resetting, and polishing glassware/cutlery.
- Ensure compliance with all sanitation, food safety, and hygiene standards.
Teamwork & Professionalism:
- Work closely with hosts, bartenders, and kitchen staff to ensure a seamless service flow.
- Handle guest complaints with grace, professionalism, and efficiency, escalating issues to management when needed.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude, contributing to a supportive team environment.
Requirements & Expectations:
- Previous serving experience in an upscale, high-volume restaurant required.
- Deep knowledge of food, wine, and cocktails; familiarity with West African cuisine is a plus.
- Strong communication and multitasking skills, with the ability to perform under pressure.
- Ability to balance efficiency and attentiveness to provide a seamless guest experience.
- Proficiency with POS systems (Toast, Micros, or similar preferred).
- Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to stand, walk, and carry trays for extended periods.
