Minimum IT Knowledge and Skills Required for Each IT Technician Position

IT technicians in a company must have the necessary knowledge and skills according to their positions. These basic IT foundations should be prepared prior to employment.

Review the minimum requirements for each position below and assess whether you meet these qualifications.

Entry-Level Technician

- Full ability to build desktop/workstation-level computers with complete understanding of all components.

- Comprehensive ability to troubleshoot computer issues.

- Full understanding of home network devices, setup, and management.

- Complete understanding of basic network topology.

- Basic understanding of server computers.

- Basic understanding of commercial network routers, firewalls, and switches.

- Basic understanding of low-voltage network installations, including network cabling and port creation skills.

- Entry-level IT certifications:

- Complete understanding and acquisition of CompTIA A+ certification.

- Complete understanding and acquisition of CompTIA Network+ certification.

- Complete understanding and acquisition of CCNA certification.

- Recommended: At least 6 months of internship experience at another IT company.

Assistant-Level Technician

- High-level understanding and 3+ years of experience in server computer build, setup, management, and troubleshooting.

- High-level understanding and 3+ years of experience in network device setup, management, and troubleshooting.

- High-level understanding and 3+ years of experience in setting up, managing, and troubleshooting cybersecurity equipment.

- 3+ years of experience leading IT projects.

- Broad IT knowledge and advanced troubleshooting skills are required.

- Complete understanding and acquisition of CCNP certification, along with 3+ years of relevant experience.

- Excellent communication and team leadership skills are required.

Senior-Level Technician

- Mastery and 8+ years of experience in server computer build, setup, management, and troubleshooting.

- Mastery and 8+ years of experience in network device setup, management, and troubleshooting.

- Mastery and 8+ years of experience in setting up, managing, and troubleshooting cybersecurity equipment.

- 8+ years of experience leading IT projects.

- Comprehensive IT knowledge and perfect troubleshooting abilities are required.

- Complete understanding and acquisition of CCIE certification, along with 8+ years of relevant experience.

- Complete understanding and acquisition of CCDE certification, along with 8+ years of relevant experience.

- Exceptional communication and team leadership skills are required.

Salary Schedule

The salary is determined based on the applicant's relevant experience and demonstrated abilities in the field. However, entry-level tech applicants' starting monthly pay must be $3,200.00.

Must be able to demonstrate the ability to pass pre-employment testing, including background checks, drug tests, and a valid driver's license.

Have a high school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Job Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reaching above and below, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and bending. The employee must occasionally lift /carry/move up to 25 pounds. Manual dexterity to operate office equipment, file, and perform specialized skills. Needs a high degree of concentration in a busy office environment.
