POSITION SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant will have personal interest and/or experience in a clinical setting and will perform clinical and administrative tasks for both Pediatric, Adult, Program RHA and Infectious Disease patients under the direct supervision of a licensed physician. All administrative functions will be evaluated by the School Based Wellness Center Manager. The Medical Assistant will be evaluated by the School Based Wellness Center Manager in collaboration with the supervising physician(s) for their respective clinics.
As a member of the health center’s integrated care team, the Medical Assistant will fulfill the following KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES towards the provision of patient centered, coordinated patient care:

Reviewing patient information for eligibility for Care for Kids program, Vaccine for Kids and Montgomery Cares program. The medical assistant will maintain a monthly tracking for scheduling for these programs and place it in Nextgen on the provider’s schedule. For those without care, the medical assistant will assist with providing parent/guardian with documentation to receive services by the school wellness clinic.

For students that have scheduled an appointment, the medical assist will provide documentation for release from class or extracurricular activities to obtain care and follow-up with parent/guardian, if needed.

Sanitize and stock rooms to ensure cleanliness after every patient.

Measure and record vital signs.

Completing patient intake.
-
Review and record patient interview, history, and chief complaint with provider.

Upload external records and / or preload immunizations.
-
Preparing patients for examination and performing routine screening tests.

Phlebotomy and collection of other lab specimens.
-
Following up with the state to ensure labs have been accepted and processed.
-
Adhering to common safety hazards and precautions.
-
Performing EKGs.
-
Assisting with referrals to internal and external resources.
-
Providing education to patients related to their care.
-
Assisting with clinical procedures under the direct supervision of a nurse practitioner.

Handling administrative duties related to patient care.
-
Ensuring accuracy in billing per MCHIP/ Health Choice programming.

Communication skills using appropriate medical terminology.

Reviewing and stocking inventory.
-
Ability to use good reasoning and judgment and react calmly in emergency situations.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers, and the public.

Attend at least two outreach programming programs per year such as PTA meetings, International Night, Health Fairs, etc.

Perform Pre-Visit Planning for targeted quality measures.

Checking electronic outbox of providers and addressing urgent issues.

Completing EHR data entry

Following up on patient care as requested by provider.

REQUIRED SKILLS OR ABILITIES:

Registered or Certified Medical Assistant

Ability to perform sterile procedures.

Ability to perform cleaning specifications of various medical equipment, fixtures, utensils, and related materials.

Prepare and administer vaccines.

Proficiency in Nextgen

Proficiency in Outlook and MS Teams

Properly distribute inventory.

Maintain supplies, equipment and /or maintain quality control standards.

Safely utilizes cleaning solvents and related products.

Ability to foster a cooperative work environment

Ability to maintain quality, safety, and / or infection control standards.

Knowledge of methods, procedures, and protocols, including federal, state, and local laws for the handling and disposal of hazardous biochemical waste products.

Computer and data entry skills necessary.

Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience preferred.

Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Ability to work on-site is an essential duty for this position.
-
This position also requires the ability to drive between clinical sites to provide additional coverage when needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-
Must have High school diploma or equivalent and have successfully completed and graduated from a medical assistant program with a minimum of five years of experience as a medical assistant.

Current CPR certification.

Must have skills, ability, and temperament to train new employees.

Must have demonstrated leadership abilities.
-
Performs standard tasks associated with patient care with minimal oversight from supervisor.

Receipt of high-level ratings on the past 3 performance evaluations.
