Our client, a law firm based in Washington, D.C. with additional offices in other major locations, is seeking a Practice Group Assistant (PGA) to support a busy and collaborative practice group. This role works closely with senior leadership to ensure smooth daily operations and provide high‑level administrative support across the team.
The Practice Group Assistant will support attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and department managers by coordinating workflows, managing administrative tasks, and contributing to the efficient execution of legal and business functions. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced professional environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive administrative support, including calendar management, meeting coordination, travel arrangements, and expense processing.
- Serve as backup support for legal assistants during absences to maintain continuity of client service, including document preparation, e‑filing, correspondence, time entry, and scheduling.
- Draft, format, and proofread correspondence, reports, and presentations with strong attention to detail.
- Maintain organized electronic and physical filing systems in accordance with internal policies.
- Assist with client billing processes, including reviewing time entries and tracking invoices.
- Collaborate with paralegals and legal assistants to balance workloads and assist with task distribution, including preparing binders for depositions and trials.
- Coordinate internal meetings, CLE programs, and practice group events.
- Track deadlines, deliverables, and key dates using project management tools.
- Support business development efforts by preparing materials for pitches, proposals, and events.
- Assist with planning and executing office‑wide social events, including vendor coordination and event logistics.
- Liaise with internal departments such as HR, IT, Marketing, and Finance to resolve administrative needs.
- Perform additional duties as required to support the practice group and client needs.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- At least two years of administrative experience, ideally within a legal or professional services environment.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a client‑service–oriented mindset, with the ability to work effectively with attorneys, clients, and vendors.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and perform well under pressure.
- Willingness to learn new systems and take on new responsibilities as needed.

Salary Range: $65,000 – $72,500
Hybrid: 4/1 -- after first 90 days on site
