For more than 30 years, Head Injury Rehabilitation and Referral Services, Inc. (HIRRS) has been serving individuals with brain injury and other neurological impairments through our comprehensive community-based program in Rockville, Maryland. The mission of the organization is dedicated to maximizing recovery, promoting access to healthcare and other resources, and enhancing community integration for individuals receiving our services. Our unique program combines clinical expertise, community connections, and customized programming to ensure that individuals seeking services are heard, their goals are identified, and comprehensive plans are executed to achieve success.
HIRRS is recruiting a Cognitive Rehabilitation Assistant (CRA), a mission-critical role for treatment planning, delivery, and follow-up for individuals with brain injury. The CRA will develop and deliver cognitive retraining activities via individual and group formats to individuals receiving services through our Meaningful Day program. The CRA will work in tandem with a team of other CRAs and Cognitive Retraining Specialists to provide tailored retraining curricula to individuals based on the goals outlined in their person-centered plan.
Qualifications
A successful candidate will have at least some college coursework in a human services-related field (e.g., psychology, education, social work, etc) from an accredited college or university. At least one year’s experience working with individuals who have sustained a brain injury, neurological impairment or other disability is desirable. The CRA should be well-organized, demonstrate sensitivity to adults with disabilities, and maintain maturity as well as warmth and compassion while retaining appropriate objectivity. This position may require driving to and from various locations in the community and at times, transporting participants in a personal or agency vehicle. The CRA will have access to reliable personal transportation and maintain personal insurance to at least the required minimums for the State of Maryland of $20,000 bodily injury, $40,000 combined bodily injury and $10,000 property damage. It is the responsibility of the CRA to provide HIRRS with proof of insurance. Prior to hire, all staff must demonstrate the ability to successfully complete reading and math aptitude tests as required by the Board of Nursing.
Responsibilities
- Provide support and instruction to participants in cognitive rehabilitation, academic remediation, vocational development, life skills, social skills and other areas to ensure meaningful days.
- Provide support and supervision during selected activities identified in individual’s person-centered plan.
- Ensure participants’ safety during activities such as, but not limited to, ambulation, accessing the community, using technology, interacting with others at HIRRS or in the community.
- Complete log notes and quarterly reports assigned and provide them to the participants’ case managers.
- Communicate information on participant’s progress, strengths and needs to other staff members and supervisors during agency staffing or other meetings.
- Participate in the development or modification and successful implementation of an individual’s person-centered plan.
- Assist with administering medication to participants and communicate with HIRRS’ medical coordinator and agency nurse to ensure compliance with all medication protocols.
- Assist in development and implementation of behavioral management strategies. When requested, participate in the development and implementation of behavior plans.
- Assist in maintaining computer resources and program materials. Assist in determining materials needed for purchase.
- Complete and maintain all training required by HIRRS and the State.
- Implement other program duties as assigned.
Pay: $18.75 per hour
