The Prince William County Office of Youth Services is seeking qualified candidates for a Security Assistant position to work in the control room at our Juvenile Detention Center (JDC). The JDC provides a safe, secure, and supportive environment for court-involved youth ages of 10-17 who are criminally charged pending court adjudication, waiting for transfer to another facility or an appropriate placement. This is an entry-level position for a start to a great career!What We’re Looking For?We're looking for someone to provide general security support in the control room by following established procedures. The Security Assistant must be able to work independently and collaborate with team members to deliver excellent service to staff and the youth in their care. The candidate must be able to operate a multi-line phone system and two-way radios.What You’ll Need to be Successful?We're looking for someone who can multitask in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities will include monitoring security footage, dispatching units to respond to potential security threats, answering and routing calls, monitoring inmate movement, controlling building access throughout the facility via electronic and manual control systems, and performing a variety of routine clerical functions.What the Job EntailsThe Security Assistant will work under the general supervision of the Juvenile Detention Center Assistant Superintendent. The role will provide safety and security through the following: Monitoring and controlling all activity within the facility to ensure the safety and security of the juvenile detainees and staff members. Securing access, movement, and communication with all occupants of the building through the use of electronic locks, surveillance cameras and audio equipment. Occasionally accompany staff on transports or perform other duties as required. Satisfactory completion of new hiring training and annual training is required. Minimum Skills & Experience8th grade education and 0-12 months of related experience in security, customer service, general office administration or experience working with youth.Preferred Skills & Experience: High school Diploma/GED Experience working in safety and/or security First Aid/CPR Training Ability to effectively work with facility personnel Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external agenciesBilingual (English/Spanish)Flexible availabilitySpecial RequirementsMust pass local, state, and federal background checksMust pass a pre-employment physical/physical fitness test Must pass a Child Protective Services record check Must possess a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record Must pass DMV Record checkMust be able to work any shiftMust be able to work overtimeMust be able to get to work in inclement weatherDesignated mandatory reporter of child abuseMust pass Handle With Care (HWC) training; CPR & First Aid certification; PREA (Prison Rape Elimination Act) training within 90 days of employmentWork Schedule & LocationThis position is performed on a 12-hour rotating shift, based on the needs of the facility and is located at the PW Juvenile Detention Center 14873 Dumfries Road, Manassas, VA 20112.Hiring Salary Range: $19.41 - $25.78/hrNOTE: The selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment background check.
