The Department of Parks and Recreation has 8 aquatic facilities to include: 2 indoor pools, 4 community pools and 2 waterparks. The aquatics department serves over 400,000 visitors a year. We offer a number of aquatic programming options, with nearly 7,000 participants per year. Team DPR is looking to hire new Water Safety Instructors for our indoor pool at the Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center and Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center, apply now!The centers are currently using the American Red Cross learn-to-swim program curriculum. Aquatic programming is scheduled at various times throughout the morning, mid-day, evening and weekends requiring candidates to have a flexible work schedule. Position Requirements: Applicants must be 16 years or older to be considered for this position.This position requires a minimum education of 8th grade or higher.Applicant must be able to obtain an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification after hired.Starting Payrate: $19.41The Department of Parks and Recreation conducts DMV records checks on all employees driving for work purposes and criminal background checks on all hires age 18 years and older.Please note: positions are open until filled or the advertisement closes with ongoing application review. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
NATURE OF WORKThis class is part of the Recreation Job Family. Incumbents performs routine work in connection with various recreation programs or activities. Instructors in this classification teach beginner and intermediate aquatic classes. Example; preschool, learn to swim, private swim, lifeguard training courses etc. May provide daily upkeep and light maintenance of equipment and facility.Distinguishing CharacteristicsThis position is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable code of conduct rules; providing customer services. Work is performed in accordance with set procedures and guidelines, and deviation from those guidelines require approval.TYPICAL CLASS RESPONSIBILITIES(These responsibilities are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)1.Carrying out program plans, activities, and lessons. Sets up equipment or materials needed for a class and cleans up after program.2.Provides excellence in customer service by answering questions and providing information to the public.3.Maintains and prepares equipment and facility and maintains related records.4.Enforces pool rules; provides emergency care and treatment as required.5.Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
